One day while visiting a circus, which had stopped in my home town, I discovered a fortune-teller in one of the tents. Out of curiosity lentered the tent and took a seat across the table from a gaily dressed woman wearing long, silver earrings. After the fortune-teller had revealed to me what my future held, I asked whether she could tell me where my classmates from M. C.H.S. were and what they were doing. Gazing into her crys- tal ball, she made the following revelations to me: Your classmates were indeed an efficient and brilliant group of students, they have succeeded in every walk of life, as doc- tors, lawyers, teachers, artists, stenographers, etc. Norma Schneider has been recognized as one of the world's greatest landscape artists, and her work has been placed into the leading museums of the country. Sharing Norma's studio is Nor- man Wilmsmeyer, who is famous for painting portraits of soci- ety people. ln the field of sports Isee Keith Grodeon, a well-known baseball player, pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals, and Henry Feldt, a professional basketball player with the St. Louis Bombers. In the entertainmentworld Sally McAbee is taking Holly- wood by storm as the greatest actress since Greta Garbo. Lois Ackerman has recently made her debut as a concert pianist at Carnegie Hall. At various times Lois has served as accompanist I0 Margaret Truman, Who has finally been considered sufficiently trained to sing for the next Mascoutah Homecoming celebration. Don Seitz is a dignified undertakerin Boston and frequently takes a vacation between corpses to visit his friends, Robert Whitecotton and Jim Mitchell, who are now prominent lawyers residing in Washington, D. C. They are noted for their tendency never to give up an argument. They are-frequently hired by John L. Lewis. ln the crystal balll see Paul Blackmer as a noted scientist, whose best friends live on the planet Mars, and who has made many trips to the crater of the moon and has become wealthy by retailing the green cheese he found there. Also in the field of science are Pat Cummings and Mabel Grate, who are on the nursing staff of Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Armin Hamann, Walter Engel, and Marlin Hoercher are agriculture experts at the University of Illinois. Phyllis Augustine has become secretary to our Republican President and has established her permanent home in Washington, D. C. Pearl Graul has acquireda nation-wide reputation as a the- ater magnate. She has just added another group of theaters to N her possessions, including magnificient movie palaces at Rent- chler and Fayetteville. When in New York on business Pearl frequently sees her classmate, Betty Jean Haas, who is head waitress at the Stork Club. Lyla Jean Phillips is the owner of several beauty salons in Chicago. Her co-workers, Anna Mae Yarber and Deloris Rowold, design coiffeur styles for Lyla Jean's distinguished clientele. Beulah DeRousse is writing a column of advice to the love- lorn, called 'Featrice Bairfax, in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, of which Clarence Schanz is circulation manager. Evelyn Dickhaut is now typing teacher of Brown's Business School in St. Louis. Also in the teaching field is Rita Wom- bacher, the head instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Belleville. Her assistants, Jaynie Bassett and Shirley Mein- hardt, are turning out jitterbugs by the dozens. Betty Jane Rich- ter is teaching home economics at the Mascoutah High School, her alma mater. Also on the reaching staff there is Thusnelda Bizenberger, who is teaching German. Wendell Short, designer of the Short-Windmobile, has per- fected his car to go at the speed of 175 miles per hour. The former Ruth Karpel is a contented housewife, married to a prosperous Mascoutah farmer. Mascoutah at last has aphotographer. Who is it? None oth- er than John Starron. He has been commissioned to take the pictures for the 1961 Mascoutan. His able assistant, Bonnie Funk, first became interested in photography when she was taking snapshots for the 1951 Mascoutan. JoAnn LeMaster is a Powers model, chosen 'The Model of the Year. ' JoAnn models clothes designed by Eileen Snyder. Curt Condon has made himself famous and has endeared himself to school children by inventing a new kind of chewing gum which miraculously disappears when ateacher approaches. Marilyn Dietz and Betty Garner are efficient stenographers on the staff of General MacArthur, who is now at Scott Air Force Base to spend his declining years. Bernice Renth is a traveling saleslady for the Fuller Brush Company. With that the fortune-teller looked up from her crystal ball and told me she had concluded her revelations about my class- mates of the class of 1951 of Mascoutah Community High School. I left the tent with my own future a secret. I was glad to learn that my old friends were successful, and I knew that M.C.H.S. had contributed much to their success.
