BUDDY'S PLACE HERTZ CLEARNERS ' PROFFITT GROCERY Z CMJ ibechcafion We dedicate this book, the T951 MAS- COUTAN, to Mr. Arthur Benz to express in a small way the appreciation felt by students and faculty. During his long and successful career in the Mascoutah school system he has worked dil- igently directing our school band and developing the musical talents of the students of M.C.H S. We, the students, wish to express our sincerest graditude to Mr. Benz for all he has done for us and for M.C.H.S. OPQLUOI' This book is meant to be o record of this, our last year otM.C.H.S. We, the classof 1951, hope that the material pre- sented in this book will show the progress the school has made. As we have helped it grow and mature, we have learned to love every inch of our school, and we have developed a responsibility and a pride in being a part of its beginning. The staff presents this book as the final achievement of the class of l95i of Mascoutah Com- munity High School. This page sponsored by MOLL FURNITURE AND UNDERTAKING CO. .xdolminififra fion lt is with a feeling of gratitude that we express our appreciation to Mr. Wiley B. Garvin, who has so effectively directed our school. A school could not have a more tireless worker. There is always a job to be done, and the clock does not limit hisduties. Acharacterization of the qualities ofMr. Garvin would be incomplete without mentioning those things that make successful teachers--human qualities. Mr. Garvin has never been found too busy to talk over problems with students and teachers. We shall all be the betterfor hishaving lived and worked among us. . 1 -ul This page sponsored by CHARLES KLINGEL, INC. The members deserve credit for all that they do for our school. Without the Board our school could not function successfully, as it has for many years. Althoughthe Board receives little publicity, we, s students, have come to realize that the Board is a very vital factor in the administration of the school . We wish to take this opportunity to extend to the members of the Board of Education . f N ..-qf- F2 il W' 'I i as ' rf' 'xx WILEY B, GARVIN, B.S., M.S. Superiniendent and Principalg Student Council. One day while visiting a circus, which had stopped in my home town, I discovered a fortune-teller in one of the tents. Out of curiosity lentered the tent and took a seat across the table from a gaily dressed woman wearing long, silver earrings. After the fortune-teller had revealed to me what my future held, I asked whether she could tell me where my classmates from M. C.H.S. were and what they were doing. Gazing into her crys- tal ball, she made the following revelations to me: Your classmates were indeed an efficient and brilliant group of students, they have succeeded in every walk of life, as doc- tors, lawyers, teachers, artists, stenographers, etc. Norma Schneider has been recognized as one of the world's greatest landscape artists, and her work has been placed into the leading museums of the country. Sharing Norma's studio is Nor- man Wilmsmeyer, who is famous for painting portraits of soci- ety people. ln the field of sports Isee Keith Grodeon, a well-known baseball player, pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals, and Henry Feldt, a professional basketball player with the St. Louis Bombers. In the entertainmentworld Sally McAbee is taking Holly- wood by storm as the greatest actress since Greta Garbo. Lois Ackerman has recently made her debut as a concert pianist at Carnegie Hall. At various times Lois has served as accompanist I0 Margaret Truman, Who has finally been considered sufficiently trained to sing for the next Mascoutah Homecoming celebration. Don Seitz is a dignified undertakerin Boston and frequently takes a vacation between corpses to visit his friends, Robert Whitecotton and Jim Mitchell, who are now prominent lawyers residing in Washington, D. C. They are noted for their tendency never to give up an argument. They are-frequently hired by John L. Lewis. ln the crystal balll see Paul Blackmer as a noted scientist, whose best friends live on the planet Mars, and who has made many trips to the crater of the moon and has become wealthy by retailing the green cheese he found there. Also in the field of science are Pat Cummings and Mabel Grate, who are on the nursing staff of Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Armin Hamann, Walter Engel, and Marlin Hoercher are agriculture experts at the University of Illinois. Pinafore wants his daughter Josephine to marry Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord ofthe Admiralty, but she is in love with Ralph, a sailor. Ralph and Josephine agree to e- lope, but their plan is divulged by Dick Deadeye, thevillain. Apeddlerwoman, Buttercup, in love with the captain, informs the First Lord that the captain and Ralph had accidentally been exchanged as infants. To rectify this error Sir Joseph reduces the captain to ordinary sailor and makes Ralph cap- tain. Both Josephine and Buttercup wed the lov- ers of their choice under this grotesque arrange- ment with the blessing of Sir Joseph, who plans to marry his cousin Hebe. This operetta, replete with nonsensical whim- sicalities and dainty music, was a great success.
