He will always be re- membered for his loyalty to school and friends and for his devotion to high ideals. In addition to these fine character traits, he possessed outstanding scholastic ability. He was able to maintain his excellent grades and at the same time, took part in numerous extra- curricular activities, including football, basketball, etc. His absence in sports was no- Iifleable IMS Year. BS he was a star athlete. His numerous contributions to our class during the years he was with us will remain unfor- gettable. R QISLZC X m f HUMINISEEIIHN I. W. Markin James P. They were Leslie Drake, Davis Drake, Marilyn Clayton, Anita Lueking, Robert Schroeder, Patricia Yerion, Duane Ekberg, Shirley Sandquist, Frances Johnston, Evald Pouk, Darrel Schultz, Darrell Lubeck, and Dolores Dietz. Miss Jennings was our class sponsor and the class officers were as follows: President, Anita Lueking, Vice-President, Leslie Drake: Secretary, Marilyn Clayton. In 1950 thirteen sophomores again enrolled at M. H. S. That year we were more mis- chievous for we knew more about High School. We chose Miss Plessman for our sponsor. Class officers were as follows: President, Marilyn Clayton: Vice -President, Patricia Yeriong Secre- tary, Bob Schroederg Treasurer, Anita Lueking. In 1951 everyone returned but Shirley Sandquist and Frances Johnston. Mr. Lane was our class sponsor and class officers were as follows: President, Anita Lueking: Vice-President, Leslie Drake, Secretary and Treasurer, Marilyn Clayton. Our class colors were crimson and cream, our class flower, fed Carnation-x We presented the play, Mol1ie 0'Shaunessey. A Hawaiian theme was carried out at the Junior -Senior Banquet in Holdrege. In 1952 all of the juniors except Davis Drake returned for their senior year. Our sponsor was Mr. Markin. Our class officers were: President, Patricia Yeriong Vice -President, Marilyn Clayton, Secretary and Treasurer, Anita Lueking. We presented the play Professor How Could You! in December. The Junior -Senior Banquet and the final Graduation exercises will finish out our grade and high school career. Our history has been brief when compared to the life of the School. Yer wemay havemade some small dent in its history. Let us hope we have left a memorable record for future classes to admire and remember. 7 se Q CLASS WILL We, the class of 1953, of Mascot Consolidated High School, The County of Harlan, and of the State of Nebraska, being of sound mind and body after four strenuous years, do hereby make, publish, and declare this our last will and testamentg hereby revoking all former wills, bequests, and devices of whatever nature or formerly heretofore made by us. We, the Senior Class, will: To the Juniors the faculty, To the Sophomores our privileges, To the Freshmen our bubble gum and candy bars, To the Faculty our ten scarred and battered desks. Duane Ekberg wills his pleasant disposition and abundant energy to Ronald Ludeke. Marilyn Clayton wills her Redhead to Joyce Kaup. Darrel Schultz wills his ability to keep out of trouble to Robert Lueking. Patricia Yerion wills her diet to Jackie Longsine. Darrell Lubeck wills his title of Reverend to Gayle Shield. Dolores Dietz wills her smiles and blushes to Carol Stark. Evald Pouk wills his cars to Paul Stevens. Anita Lueking wills her love letters to Roma Berger. Robert Schroeder wills his way with the girls to Leroy Maruhn. Leslie Drake wills his ability to get A's to Floyd lngold. To the members of the school board we return all our textbooks so kindly loaned t0 us these past four years. We're sure they will not mind too much that some of them are pretty dirty and that some pages are tom or missing. Sometimes it was difficult to get to and from school without drop - PiH8'them in the mud. 1 3 5 5 5 A SENIOR CLASS PROPI-IECY It is now the year 1958 and the Seniors of 1953 of Mascot are having a reunion in the city park of dear old Mascot. The first old classmate we meet is Darrel Schultz. He has been farming with his father for the last four years. Last summer at the County Fair he met a girl. Something clicked between them and they are planning a June wedding. As we stroll on we see none other than Madame la Dietz. Dolores moved to Washington where she owns and operates the la Dietz Beauty Salon. She is married to one of her salesmen and is still op- erating as a hobby. Reminiscing with Miss Dietz is Darrell Lubeck. Louie has just become president of a Hanger Factory in Hollywood. It seems he got the idea from the Senior girls. He is now experimenting with a new padded type. His wife, the former Joyce Kaup. models all of his new creations. Well, now what's all the noise? You guessed it! It's Robert Schroeder. He is going through some of the acrobatic antics he did when he was still in High School. He is the manager of a Novelty Shop in Oxford. His shop is located next to Dillman's Drug Store. Pretty handy, huh?? Next we decide to stop at the race track. As we approach the track we hear the starting gun. They're off! Coming around in front is a blue car named Myrtle The Turtle? As they reach the fin- ish line the driver leaps out of his car. Guess Who! It is our old classmate Evald Pouk. We try to get close enough to talk to him but the girls are all crowding around him. As we start to leave we see a crowd at the far end of the track. A car has just gone out of con- trol and rolled over. The doctorand nurse are rtmning out to the scene of the accident. wait a minute! The doctor is wearing a skirt. As we get closer we recognize the doctor as our old classmate Anita Luek- ing. As we talk to Anita we find she has had a very busy life. Only last year she founded the Mascot Mem- orial Hosiptal. As we stand looking on, reporters start to swarm around the scene of the accident. That reporter sure looks familiar. Yes, it's Leslie Drake. He is assistant to the assistant editor of the New York Tri- bune. We can't get Leslie's attention so we move on. Look at the cute pair of twins. Say, little boys, what are your names? Willy and Billy? How cute! What is your mother's name? Pat Yerion Schescke? She's over here. Pat and her family just flew in from California, where her husband has been honorably discharged from the Air Force. Pat has been following him faithfully since she got out of school. There is Marilyn Clayton with her ukulele and the garlands around her neck. She just came home for her summer vacation from Hawaii where she owns a 1280 acre pineapple plantation, and is manager of the Waikiki Beach Dancing Darlings, Her husband, Mr. Peterson, owns several other plantations which he is kept busy running. Now as there seems to be no other Seniors in this great city we head for home. ln a few minutes we pass through an isolated spot in the hills of Arkansas and who should we spy but that hillbilly with the brown hair, Duane Ekberg, so we stop. The town seems to be dead and there is not a person on the street except for the few sitting under the trees either snoozing or smoking. Duane is gazing at the withered pic- ture of a beautiful babe who was once known as his Itsv, bitsv. southern babv. Oh! What nine-dreams he has! As Duane was concentratingon the picture so intensely we decided to leave Cactus Junction and be on our way. We have now visited with all of the Class of 1953, so we must bid them Goodbye, 1 JIINIHHS s 5 4 C C Cletus Kresser Jackie Longsine At the start of the school term of 1952-53 two juniors entered the Mascot High School.
