Watch for this band ' s name in lights Years from now, the l l JKH Masconomct graduates may find their children silting through the albums by Dave Fischer at their favorite record stores. David Fischer is an aspiring musician, hoping to “make it big after he graduates in June His passion for music has existed ever since he was young The turning point came when, at the ripe age of twelve, he received a guitar as a Christmas gift. Since then, he has worked unrelentlessly to develop his natural talent into someth- ing which could one day make him a star It’s hard sometimes to go on w ith all the competition. But the one thing that keeps me going is the positive reaction from my audience, Fischer comments Dave not only plays the guitar, he writes many of his own songs as well. His songs are written from his strongest emotions and most memorable experiences. He has the uncanny ability to personalize his music which captivates his audience. His rising talent has gained him publicity which has resulted in successful shows. Dave has been with his latest band since (his past summer. His latest gig was at the Topsfield Fair in October. All these achievements are impressive but to look at Layne you would not stereo-type him as a “brain”. Layne is part of the “Gators swim team, affiliated with Harvard Univer- sity He has won the most improved swimmer award three times and plans to swim competitively in college He also played water polo when he lived in Cincinnati, Ohio I like swimming because I can concentrate on i| and forget about everything else, Layne says Swimming occupies much time Layne swims every day-twice a day , four times a week He gets up four mornings a week at 4:30 to go into Boston to swim for two hours before going to school. Sometimes, Layne gets only three hours of sleep a night Yet he still maintains his high academic standards Layne is so brilliant you want to put him on a pedestal, but he’s so genuinely friendly, you can’t.” comments one student Sure. Layne is smart. But. if he was detached like some geniuses no one would care. It is his sense of humor and personality that makes him stand out. notes Mr. Meinelt, teacher of four years. Layne seems to take all of this in stride When asked about all the awards, Layne states. It used to embarass me but now I just accept it I guess I’m really lucky. It must be said. Layne’s success is a little more than luck Layne searches for a word he doesn’t know. he can’t find a single one A bundled Bracy. Layne, the outdoorsman. 12
