MITOBO September 1984 - June 1988 Vol. 29 Then and Now... A chain of friends. It says it all. J. Epstein and M Goettel have the homecoming spirit Looking back at our years at Masco, many students will find it hard to believe that a good part of their last six years was spent here. Masco was a place where we went to school, but it was a lot more. In seventh grade, it was the ominous place where we thought we would get lost, never to return again. Soon, we discovered it was con- querable. As seventh graders, we were subjected to high schoolers ' taunting, mandatory chorus, and countless spirit days in which we were coaxed into painting our bodies red and white. There were the highlights to our first year here though, namely our numerous field trips. We journeyed to Bradley Palmer, Plum Island, and other hot spots in the area. But. the apogee occured in June of that year. We had Field Day. If one recalls, it rained. . .all day Playing tug of war just isn’t the same in the middle of a downpour. . . We entered the following fall as the big eighth graders on campus, pretty cool and confident. It was a typical year, no big events until . . . they came to town . The identi- cal Balogh triplets became the new obsession for the eighth grade girls. At the year’s end, there was the infa- mous big eighth grade formal in which we stood and watched Rob Portillo and Rob Bagarella breakdance for a good portion of the night. To end the year, we went to Canobie Lake Park where we went wild for the day. Our times in high school were memorable and there were too many to mention in such a short space. As fresh- men, we were told, “These are the best years of your life!” When we became the targets of Senior antics we questioned, Does this get better?” As sophomores, we were subjucted to the ultimate test, the ignorance fighter. A1 Brown. I don’t think we’ll ever recover from that verbal abuse, even if we might have learned something in the process. Those dances always produced a good turnout in which people would pack into the field house to rock the night away. There were other events that unified Masco- nomet such as those Saturday football games. Fellow Masconians would congregate to watch those dazzling athletes stun their opponents time and time again. For the more cultural side of us, there were always the theatrical productions to satisfy our needs. As juniors, we were prom bound, corsages in place and expectations running high. It was a memorable night that everyone remembers in some way, even if the highlight was the fruit salad. The summer break came and went. Then, FINALLY, we were seniors! Our time had come. Our parties, functions, and frolics, led by the “Dream Team” were a success. To think back to our years at Masconomet, the events are significant but most important is the fact that throughout the years we grew and matured not only in- dividually but collectively, as a class. The diversity of Masco which is represented in the Class of 1988 has come together as a unit and is working toward a common goal. Were these the best years or is the best yet to come? The future alone holds that answer. C. Keene pays no attention to what Rim has to say. We’ve got spirit, how about you? 10
