PEER ED Peer Education is kids providing infor- mation to other kids (from grades 9-12) in the Tri-town area who have been trained to provide information and referrals to their peers. They currently have an office near the Junior High Cafe, which is open during school hours. Masco Peer Ed pro- vides education to the school through brochures, discussions, workshops, mov- ies and dramatic skits that focus on teen- age depression and suicide, separation and divorce, drug and alcohol abuse. Their latest project has been to create a peer pressure skit directed toward the sixth graders as a preparation for Junior and Senior High school. In addition, they have information on a wide variety of topics including: stress, nutrition, self-esteem, and death and loss. They also provide education to parent groups and other community groups. The Peer Eds will be participating in the prom campaign and are organizing to have a hot line for prom night to provide students PEER EDUCATION with a safe ride. They have a New Student Orientation program in cooperation with the Guidance office. The Peer Education Program is sponsored by the Tri-town Council. AMY JOHNSON 24
