The Massachusetts Future Problem Solving Program is designed to use futur- istic problems to instill problem solving skills in students. Students with aca- demic creative ability work to solve real-life problems from our future and then develop a solution for what they believe the underlying problem is. Last year after six months of time and effort had been put forth into the program along with the shuffling of certain students to secure the proper chemistry for all three teams, the team was invited to partici- pate in the 1984 Massachusetts F.P.S. B owl at M.l.T. on April 28th. This team consisted of seniors; Jeff Schwefler, Chris Kraus, Russell Wilcox, Scott Young, and junior Doreen Lukowski. Not only did this team take first place in the team competition, but also took first place in The Solution Selling presenta- tion, in which a team through a skit de- velops a method to sell and implement their best solution. Their strong perfor- mance once again insured them of further competition at the International Bowl In Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For Masconomet, this was their second state title in as many years and second trip to Cedar Rapids for international competition. Masconomet eventually finished eighth in the country in the team competition. In the individual competition Jeff Schewfler from Boxford finished first in the United States and Canada in the com- petition. This was a remarkable accom- plishment for Jeff. Not only was this great honor a first for Masconomet but it was also the first time a top award was re- ceived by any Massachusetts team in In- ternational F.P.S. Bowl competition. This spring, Masconomet will attempt to make it three consecutive state titles. RICHARD CRAIG FUTURE PROBLEM SOLVERS ROW 1: S. Young. R. Wilcox, K. Hanson, R. Craig, J. Jarvis, M. Maccarone, L.
