Class advisor presents reality behind the scenes Sure, we know that it’s corny to dedicate the yearbook to the class advisor. And we also know that he received the dedication in 1971 and a special award in 1974. Perhaps, had we checked a few closets and rolled over a few rocks, we might’ve found another person at Masconomet who has done more for the Class of 1977. But yearbook dedications are supposed to go to the person who is always there, ready to help the individual or the Class as a whole. That person must understand the adjustment which every kid has to make when he prepares for full-time employment or college. The most obvious, and therefore most deserving, choice for this dedication is Don Doliber. Doliber, 33, has been a class advisor since he entered the Social Studies department in 1968. A comparison of all the classes he has advised would be unfair, but he does admit that ’77 is unique. “This class is one of the most socially oriented groups in recent years.’’ he said. “The kids want more dances, more parties and more activities.” “School has to be more than books. It is a socialization and those activities are necessary.” Most of Doliber’s job is financial and he must steer the class back on the right track when problems arise. Despite the frustrations that accompany the job, Doliber enjoys watching the class mature. “My happiest moment is when the last name is called at graduation. You get a funny feeling, like they ' re your own sons and daughters.”
