r un in i 1 3 J What a friend we have in time Gives us children, makes us wise Tells us what to take Or leave behind And the gift of growing old are the stories to be told And the feelings more precious than gold. m Friends the years have gone so fast All our stories now are past Memories . . . forever they will last Now we know that we must try to live each day before they die But now it’s time for us to say good-bye. Friends I will remember you Think of you Pray for you And when another day is through I’ll still be friends with you. 3 2126 00143 364 3 MASCONOMET REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MIDDLETON TOPSFIELD BOXFORD 2 DEDICATION His guidance throughout the past four years has united us as a class, yet shaped us as individuals. His dedication as Class advisor has caused us to hold the utmost in respect for him, and he for us. But most of all, his character as a person has affected our lives in such a way that it will not be fully appreciated until our Senior year at Masconomet is but a flicker in the past, a faded memory of youth. Married this past November, he, like us, will cherish this year for a lifetime. It is with a deep sense of gratitude that we dedicate the 1973 MITOBO to Mr. Richard R. Meegan. Class unity took a big step forward on this night in February. 92 JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM The 1972-1973 Junior-Senior Prom was held on May 12, 1972, at the Colonial Hilton in Lynnfield. Beverly Spearin reigned as queen. HALLOWEEN PARTY Living up to our image as a class of ‘firsts’, the Class of ’73 initiated the first Senior Hal- loween Party, held on October 28, 1972. Al- though no heart failures were reported, numerous young ladies confessed nervousness due to the presence of ‘Count Dracula.’ 94 _ POWDER PUFF The Annual Senior-Junior Football clash was held on November 21, 1972, on the Masco gridiron. The Sizzling Seniors continued their unparal- leled domination over the helpless Junior Jockettes by mercifully stomping them 8-0. Credit is due in large part to the Senior cheerleaders, without whose spirit and support this victory might not have been achieved. CHRISTMAS PARTY The Senior Christmas Party was held on December 20, 1972, in the Senior High Cafeteria. A beautifully decorated Christmas tree provided a holiday atmosphere surpassed only by the arrival of St. Nick (alias Mr. Doliber), bringing gifts for Masconomet’s four Foreign Exchange Stu- dents. The Masconomet Rock Ensemble supplied the entertainment and the Senior Class supplied the spirit for a memorable occasion. 97 Through thick and thin, come %$ ! or high water, the Class of ’73 has stood the test ! Even a bomb scare on the opening night of the Frolics failed to dampen the spirit of the Seniors, or to weaken their will to con- tinue. As the saying goes, “The Show must go on !”, and, under the leader- ship of Director MacLeod and Manager Cryan, it did ! ... If we only have love, we can reach those in pain ; We can heal our own wounds, we can use our own names. One way in which Masco is satisfying this need is through it’s Computer and Data Processing Center, which has been acclaimed both in local newspapers and technological journals. n Continuing in its effort to accom- modate the broadening horizons of its students, Masconomet has expanded its Industrial Arts Department, in- cluding such vocations as Electrical Wiring and Mechanical Drawing. Along with expansion in the Auto- motives Department, Home Eco- nomics has increased its opportuni- ties, offering a variety of courses helpful to the future homemaker and chef alike. Clothing and Textiles, Needlework and Interior Decorating to name a few. 108 HB 109 ■■a. Ill mam ■■■■■ ,lV,ila “ ir , 0N STUDENT COUNCIL ROW I: D. Church, G. Flagg, N. Anderson, B. Although they were winless, a number of their games were very close. Losses to Lynn Tech. (16-14) and Triton (6-0) were especially demoralizing. Masconomet may have a new Varsity coach next year, as Coach Walt Roberts steps down. But his spirit and character will leave a lasting impression on Masconomet, of which he has been a part for 13 years. The JV’s finished with a 4-3-1 record and show promise, while this year’s Freshman team had a 4-5 record. 145 VARSITY AND JUNIOR VARSITY SOCCER VARSITY, ROW I: P. Minich, M. Crowe, D. Taylor, S. Harding, S. Small, M. Panella. ROW II: Mr. L. Emmons (coach), B. Roberge, R. Rose, D. Roy, G. Viviani, D. Church, J. Carpenter, J. Scutiere, M. Henn, M. Reide, J. Burke, T. Wyner (asst, coach). With a record of 14-1-1, the 1973 Varsity Soccer team has a right to be proud. They went undefeated in Cape Ann League play, only to lose in the State Tournament to Duxbury. This exciting sport is drawing many fans at Masco, and if next year’s team continues to do well, the popularity of the game will grow even more. Congratulations to first year coach Len Emmons for doing a great job. The Junior Varsity team had a 2-4 record. JUNIOR VARSITY, ROW I: R. Gilbert, T. O’Brien, A. Rose, R. Wyner, P. Bogdonoff, P. Flaherty, J. Ackerman, M. Scollard, S. McLaughlin. ROW II: Coach Emmons, T. Morse, B. Hancock, J. Ryan, D. Bergsten, E. Vegg, J. Bernays, S. Ackerman, R. Moulton, B. Flaherty, Asst, coach Wyner. 147 CROSS COUNTRY FRESHMAN, ROW I: K. Spring, S. Wiswell, T. Wehling. ROW II: D. Simms, J. Bakewell, J. Rolsma. The Masconomet Cross Country Team captured the Cape Ann League title for the 13th straight year with a record of 12 wins, no losses and one tie. (So what else is new?) Led by Captain Dick Ballentine, the Chief- tain harriers remained undefeated, with one tie against Hamilton-Wenham. They also did well in the States, and finished 1st in the Cape Ann Open. 148 JUNIOR VARSITY, ROW I: J. Hartford, J. Fasana, J. Smith, C. Mueller, J. Bond,, D. Sanders. ROW II: J. Graham, C. Bryant, G. Rolsma, J Ross, P. Rolsma, M. Small, M. Morrell, M. Moran, Mr. P. Antzac (coach). FIELD HOCKEY VARSITY, ROW I: T. Seutiere, N. Simms, K. Mulcahy, N. Anderson, E. Sneeden. ROW II: Miss P. Fin- negan (coach), M. Hall, T. Meade, P. Ackerman, B. Watson, G. W right. With very few members leaving, there seems a good chance next year’s Varsity Field Hockey Team will improve on this year’s 6-4-4 record. JUNIOR VARSITY, ROW I: P. Richman, M. Jones, S. Moore, K. Bogart, G. Kruys- man, G. Flagg. ROW II: D. Wildes, A. O’Brien, L. Kenney, C. Reisdorf, M. Onufry, S. Smith, L. Hyde, Miss Finnegan (coach). 149 MASCO VARSITY FOOTBALL, ROW I: J. Blauser, D. Santagate (man.), B. Thompson, M. Walker, M. Mann, D. Worthen, D. Bernard, T. Colby (man.). Sporting a 10-8 record, this year’s Var- sity Basketball showed vast improvement over last years dismal season. Dick Ballen- tine was selected a Cape-Ann all-star, and remained the team leader throughout the season. The JV’s under Coach Sawchuck finished at 5-13, due largely to the fact Juniors were prohibited to play on the squad, thus leaving it up to virtually inexperienced sophomores. The Freshman record was 5-11 under Coach Hodson. 152 W f 1 J J VARSITY HOCKEY 154 The Masconomet Varsity Hockey team, playing it’s first year in the Cape Ann League, won the Fred B. Cole Cup, symbolic of the Cape Ann Playoff champs. Led by senior defensemen Steve Englehart and Dave Taylor, scoring leaders Mark Panella and Pete Minich, Captain Bud Taft and Asst. Captain Roger Wildes, they finished third in the league stand- ings, a mere one point behind Lynnfield. A last minute goal by Junior Terry Fox gave the Chieftains a 3-2 win over Amesbury to capture the Cole Cup. JUNIOR VARSITY TEAM, ROW I: D. Johnson, P. Bog- donoff, K. McGinity, K. Doughty, T. Cole, B. Thomas. ROW II: Mr. Martinez (coach), R. White, E. Muskes, T. Hooven, D. Wright, J. Bond. GIRLS BASKETBALL VARSITY, ROW I: L. Harrison, M. May, K. Stone, J. Weyland, P. Ackerman, K. This year’s Girls Varsity Basketball team had a 5-6 record while the JV’s were 2-9. Since few Seniors were graduating this year, both coaches look for an improved team. JUNIOR VARSITY, ROW I: C. With four team members qualifying for the State Touranment, Masco captured 3rd place in the Cape Ann League with an excellent 10-4 record. Co-Captains Pete Wiswell and Steve Eddy led the team to a strong finish after a slow start. Also qualifying for the tourney were Andy Moser, Dave Roy and Jim Lessing. Marcia Schumacher placed first with her adver- tising poster at a Regional Deca Conference. She will go on to compete with schools all over the state at the Career Development Conference in Hyannis.
