One queries: What is our problem: the problem? Where does it hide? (Or does it?) Maybe we know where it is But shroud it — Fearing it will be uncovered. I said a problem. This problem we mask: What is it? We take so much pain to hide it That We forget: It is IDENTITY See it? Remember it. Keep it. Use it. Without it: What am I? What are you? It has been shunned: Within ourselves . . . . . . not a system FIND IT! Don’t be ashamed Discover yourself Be yourself Don’t be timid Don’t perform Live your life . . . . . . Your Way! J.B. Rendle We Face the Sun We face the sun, our backs to yesterday — We are today, we’ll be tomorrow, Though sometimes scorned, we’ll stand up straight, And fight with truth instead of stones. We once were rivers, now we’re the ocean. Our ways unsure, but goals are set. Our minds are deep, conscience clear, Humanity will prevail, through tomorrow But tomorrow’s infinity, it’s never reached, never dies. So there is time, for us to live, To show the world: We’re headed right.” Today we lead, but not forever. We know someday, we’ll step aside. When new waters overflow our ocean, We become the Rivers to tomorrow. But tomorrow’s infinity, It’s never reached, Never dies. Martha Dunphy 11

A WT AND £1 JEM TURK Thinking Of all the things I’ve never done, All the places I ' ve never been — The opportunities seem So limitless — I wonder Just where to go From here Ann Curtis Growing Up Here I am, Looking back Into the maze of memories, Searching still For that intangible force Which made everything so vital — so real. Here I am, Looking forward Toward a future, Which, with its new beginnings Brings a sense of awe And a new awareness. Here I am, Seventeen years old, Caught up in the middle, Clinging to the past and its security, Yet reaching out to the future, Realizing that it’s time to break away And to stand on my own. L. Spakowski 10

A miniature stone Seen with brothers as a beach In itself, a world. Dana Jones Lonliness seeps in, like rain through a crack in the roof Until you are nothing, nothing better than a flower in the snow. Susan Shipley Stages Dawn — I marveled at the sunrise, The radiating warmth touched me And I gazed upon a glistening world — I had only begun to see. I wanted to question, but knew not how to ask. Noon — I did not believe the sun was overhead. My shadow disappeared, and I stood alone. Through the clouds — one ray of light shone brightly. I found a door, but had no key. I questioned, but did not hear the answer. Dusk — I take it for granted that the sky is glorious — Awash with the hues of the setting sun, A masquerade that camouflages the landscape. I am beginning to see. I can answer, but no one asks the question. Evening — The sun wall disappear slowly, Taking with it the vital flame Which radiates warmth to all; Leaving no trace — it is forgotten. Louise Eskind 12
