He is a man of great versatility and concern, always ready to ad- vise us on innumerable and diverse problems. It is doubt- ful that many of the operettas and plays would have been so successful without his help and knowledge. In gratitude for time and energy devoted to all classes, we dedicate the 1969 MITOBO to him. 2 TVtetf Of t Htt w it TLtm .... ■ $ mim ■ . (it ffrtULTY ■ 12 fcriviras - (t7 t W swatts . DAVID WOYTOVICH leaves Miss Ashley to next year ' s darkroom. ossue «ia The date: Friday, May 31, 1968. The place: Castle Hill, Ipswich. The event: Masconomet’s Junior- Senior Prom . One hundred seventy-eight couples danced and ate in the romantic, formal atmosphere of the Castle, as the class of ' 69 sponsored one of the most successful proms in the history of the school. The weather was cold and foggy, but this did not seem to dampen spirits as the evening began with the traditional receiving line of faculty members, administration, and class officers, and proceeded through the Se- nior ' s Grand March and general dancing to its climax, the announcement of the eight girls chosen to be members of the Prom Queen ' s court. Don Russell’s Orchestra was given the task of choosing a queen from among the eight candidates. After some deliberation the band chose Janet Ross to be the 1968 Prom Queen. In the court were Muffie Cheney, Patrice Eremian, Carol Pavesi, Chris Pitt, Sally Shaffer, Lyn Small, and Joanne Wildes . A buffet dinner was served at 10:30 and dancing continued until this enjoyable and enchanted evening drew to a close at midnight. I tl INHERIT THE WIND The school ' s production of INHERIT THE WIND delighted and entertained large audiences. Under the able direction of Miss Jarvie, freshmen and seniors alike played their parts superbly. Steve Polkow, as the hard, realistic defense attorney, had our full attention and sympathy. Rick Porter thundered Prosecutor Matthew Brady ' s pompous oratories with convincing realism. With humorous witticisms and pointed re- marks, Scott Nangle, as the cynical Hornbeck, occasionally dominated the action. The fine scenery and intricate lighting displayed the action to its fullest. iiiiifiiiimmiimiimmimiiuiiiiiiuiniiilfiiii BRIGADOON This year on March 7 and 8, the enchanted Scottish Village of Brigadoon made a once in a century appear- ance on Masconomet ' s stage. Richard Porter and Scott Nangle portrayed Tommy and Jeff, Two weary hunters” lost in a misty forest of Scotland. As the mist rose, the two experienced an unforgettable day in their lives when they encountered the colorful characters of Brigadoon. With Miss Jarvie ' s expert di- rection and the hardwork of the ' behind-the-scenes ' committees, a superb production was enjoyed by many of the region ' s residents. The senior and junior girls, after weeks of practice with their respective football -team -member coaches, once more proved to gridiron fans that football is not necessarily a man ' s game. The Seniors ( Lunchies ) scored in the first half and seemed certain of an undisputed victory but the Juniors ( Rod ' s Broads ) managed to score with only seconds to spare. The resulting 6-6 tie was claimed as a moral victory for the Lunchies . RALLIES RALLIES Several times throughout the year the Pep Squad and cheerleaders organized rallies in the Masconomet gym . With inspiration from the band, Pep Squad, majorettes, and cheer- leaders, the student body was encouraged to cheer our football, basketball, and hockey teams on to victory. SOCK HOPS To raise funds for this year ' s activities, the Senior class sponsored several victory sock hops. Following football and basketball games, the enthusiastic spectators went to enjoy dancing to live and recorded music in the school gym . ASSEMBLIES The assembly series featured three outstanding programs. Reverend Breeden of Roxbury spoke to House Three on Black Power and Pride. Later, three former drug addicts, also from Roxbury, spoke about their personal experiences as addicts and as members of FIRST: For Individuals Recovering Sound Thinking. Prior to the ' 68 Presidential election, there were assemblies for the two major candidates, with State Senator Saltonstall speaking for Mr. Nixon, and Dean Larkin of Boston College for Mr. Humphrey. Freshmen and Sophomores were invited to sing in the House II Chorus, and those in House III could join the Singers. Both organizations were under the direction of Miss Jarvie and the student director, Rick Porter. Any high school student could audition for Chorale, a balanced singing group of approximately two dozen students. The band, directed by Mr. Killian, was open to all students. They practiced in two sections, sym- phonic and marching band, the latter providing entertainment at football games and at rallies. The high- lights of the year occurred at the times of the Christmas and Spring Concerts, both excellent perfor- mances. The Music Room has become one of the favorite rendezvous of the many talented musicians in Masconomet . W r ' x j p m J L il vMP I ■k x ■J j f £ ' f if 9n|P ' ■y - 6 19 iiH - Sw . V-- ■ 3 V ■ . The stage crew, unsung heroes of Mas- conomet ' s dramatic productions, have been kept busy this year building elab- orate sets for Inherit the Wind” and Brigadoon.” Under the supervision of Mr. Robert Morse, they tackled and solved problems in lighting and spe- cial effects . Several meets were lost by only a very few points. A large disappointment was a fifth place standing in the League Meet. All things considered, Masconomet made a good showing. Steve Polkow made his best score of the year in floor ex- ercise and Tom Hamilton performed quite well on the side horse. - ■ v GIRLS GYMNASTICS 1st ROW: L. Fraser, D. Froburg, B. Ferazzi, C. The J.V. team tried hard; but you can’t win them all. 1st ROW: G. Fowler, A. Scantlebury, R. Wyner, T. Vitale, B. Campbell, Captain. 2nd ROW: B Russell, C. Peters, Captain; C. Dresser, L. Dwinell, S. With towering Lenny Dwinell and Charlie Peters, good teamwork generally assured Masconomet a victory. Breathless fans watched as Masconomet beat Rockport by a single point. Equally ex- citing was a home game against North Reading in which Masconomet came from behind in the closing moments of play to win by three points. It was a perfect game for Charlie who made 12 out of 12 foul shots. The team entered the Tech Tourney with a fourth place standing. ■■■■ 1st ROW: J. Fowler, J. Walker, D. Dupouy, T. Healey, G. They put up a good fight against their opponents; it was not due to lack of spirit that they finished second in a number of games.
