This man has given much of himself in the form of time, effort, and especially confidence in the success of our class. To him then, as an expression of our gratitude and respect, we wish to dedicate our MITOBO -- Mr. Galean Campbell. 6 mm v I ,, In addition to our principal dedication to Mr. Campbell, the Senior Class would like to express its appreciation to its other class advisors. Mrs. Scholer once again ably directed the play, with Mrs . Jewett ' s skilled assistance in costuming and makeup. We congratulate the entire cast for a fine performance . 51 1964 Junior-Senior 52 Prom Entitled Some Enchanted Evening, ” the 1964 Junior-Senior Prom was held in the Archibald L. Jones Gymnasium on June 5. Taking its theme from a Southern Garden Motif, the gym was appropriately decorated with a Southern mansion, gazebo, and other antebellum scenery. Barbara Blaisdell was crowned Queen of the Prom with Bonnie Andrew, Betsy Gage, Ellen Inch, Marjorie Masland, Cathy Tyler, and Sherry Webber chosen as members of her court . School Store Serving the students and faculty with everything from gym suits and sweatshirts to fountain pens supreme is the school store. Under the direction of Mrs. Varney, a small corps of potential salesmen experiment with sales pitches . In addition to the main store in the gym lobby, there is a temporary branch in the junior high, open, as is the main store, during homeroom periods. Color Day and Night Rally Preceding the football game with our traditional rival school, Pentucket Regional, students were involved in a school -wide color day. Students attended school wearing the school ' s colors, red and white. Dress regulations were relaxed, making it possible for players to wear their football jerseys, and for cheerleaders to wear cheering sweaters. At night the rally began with a gathering at Trinity Church, half a mile from the school . Participants marched to the football field, where cheerleaders and the team led a pep-rally. A dummy Pentucket chief was burned in effigy to conclude the activities . 54 t «. Powder-Puff Football Hail to the conquering heroes! In their usual inimitable style, the senior girls tromped the junior girls, 8-0. The teams met in friendly feminine rivalry on the Masconomet field, November 24, 1964. The seniors, last year ' s champions, extended their un- defeated, unscored upon record, to achieve the first unbeatable two -game record. Credit should be given to the coaches, who showed remarkable endurance in both practice and game, and the cheerleaders, who kept the fans ' spirit at an all-time high. Cheerleaders: Pete O ' Dell, Gary Lynch, Gene Perry, Dave Gangi . Bertaux Cross Country Our Class D State champion cross-country team continued on the spectacular pace which it set last year. This year the Chieftain Harriers, led by Captain Walter Barber, scored an impressive number of victories. In the pre-season Northeastern Track Conference Meet in Boston the team placed third. From here the team went on to win the Cape Ann League Championship and the Cape Ann Open with Walt Barber placing first for the second year in a row. During the season the team increased its unbeaten dual meet record to 32 consecutive victories. Our team then proceeded to rout all other teams at the State Championship meet in Boston. As a result of their victory, they qualified for the New England Championship in Rhode Island. Defeating 16 other teams from all of New England the Chieftains placed second, climax- ing a tremendous season. The team and their coach, Mr . Benson, can be commended for a highly successful season. Despite facing tougher competition, the team extended its winning streak to 19 games, a 1964 state record. The team also finished second in a close contest for Class D supremacy. Thanks to the excellent coaching of Walter Roberts and the team ' s drive, determination, and spirit, they finished a highly successful season with a record of 8 wins and 1 loss . 63 m f a The season provided many exciting moments for both spectators and players. Among the high- lights were Foard Tarbert ' s game winning touchdown catch with only 30 seconds remaining in the Attleboro game, co-captain Pete O’dell’s 80 yard touch- down run on a pass inter- ception against Pentucket, and Steve Chew ' s 32 point performance against Pentucket, which included his 90 yard kickoff return. This brought his 4 year scoring total to 424 points --a state record; in addition, Steve won the individual state scoring title for the second year in a row. We are sure everyone joins us in congratulating the team for its outstanding season. Field Hockey Girls field hockey this year saw a surge of good playing and high interest in the sport. Statistically, the girls were not as successful as they hoped to be, finish- ing the season with three wins, ten losses and one tie . The Chief- tians, scalped in their first game, went on the war- path to capture the next thirteen out of fifteen games, qualifying for the Tech Tourney. In league competition standings we were topped only by Hamilton-Wenham, who by luck only managed to remain undefeated. During the season our players provided their fans with many moments of exciting competition. Particularly arousing were the tense games with a strong St. Ann’s team and the annual clashes with the always powerful Essex Aggie. This year ' s team, coached by Mr. Harold Tozier, had Jim Riley, captain, and Dave Lewis at the guard positions, Dick Wennerberg at center, and Paul Richardson and Steve Whelan playing forwards . Providing a blistering supporting bench were John Knight, Billy Gaither, Jon Steimen, Wally Wells, Phil Riley, Lenny Svetin, Joe Langis, David Ben- son, and Ken MacGill. I 71 Ice Hockey 1965 1964 saw another Masconomet First in the form of a hockey team. Considering their inexperience as a team, they responded remarkably well by compiling a record of eleven wins, one loss, and three ties in the newly formed Merrimack Valley Conference. The icemen, getting off to a fast start, were never slowed and finished first. Coached by Mr. Gerald Plumley. the Chieftains, under the leadership of co-captains Bill Kulczak and Ray Mahoney, dominated their league. High scorer for the team was Ray Mahoney. Closely following him was Mike Taft, who in one game scored four goals. Throughout the season, the team displayed a highly competitive spirit and earned a berth in the Eastern Massa- chusetts Hockey Tourney. 72 Although the girls ' basketball team did not fare so well as the boys ' team this year, they really enjoyed playing. They did not win every game; however, the team ' s spirit, if not scores, were on a high level all year long. They compiled a record of four wins, seven losses, and one tie. Competing on the varsity team were Nancy Unger, Janet Greenler, Leslie Nangle, Anne Tirrell, and Bonnie Andrew as forwards. Sue Bick- ford, Sherry Webber, Sharon Littlefield, Holly Giannino, and Leigh Dresser played at the guard positions. The junior varsity team achieved a more successful record. They won eight games while dropping only three. Members of this riproaring team were Marjori Masland, Sharon Curtis, Tina and Sue Frizzell, Gay Mann, Margaret Frizzell, Charlene Peters, Barbara Unger, Nancy Clark, Karen Hamilton, Laurel Giannino, Cindy Dotson, and. Rose LaRocca. The man- agers of these two outstanding teams were Janet Poor and Dianne Waters; the coach, Miss Clark. 75 GYMNASTS A. Taylor co-captain W. Dunphy co -captain S. Hawkins J. Smith D.
