By order of the king, it is proclaimed that we, the lords and ladies of the court, shall indite this day the tome hereafter to be known as TRISKELION. Under this sign, the ancient (Greek) symbol for progress, shall be recorded the cardinal sins and the heroic deeds of our countrymen. Beware, that ye may not retrace the footsteps of those who, in this year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and sixty-two, shall be banished forever from our kingdom, and forbidden the divine protection of the palace of Masconomet. Therefore, may it be known to all that, in the face of this judgment, no misdeed shall escape this record, nor any true deed of merit. As we review our history at Masconomet, we realize how many times he willingly gave of his own time to assist our endeavors. Mr. Meinelt has takenpersonal interest in the progress of our Class since the first day we arrived. DEDICATION 5 Early this year the whole school was saddened by the news of Mrs. Alice B. Howard ' s death. Mrs. Howard, who had served as librarian since the beginning of Masconomet, was a much-loved friend and helper to all who knew her. Fran: Yes, I never expected to meet you here in Chicago. What brings you here? Doug: Oh, I ' m playing a two-year date at the Greasy Grille. It ' s a very exclusive nightclub; they change the saw dust every night. What are you doing here? Fran: Well, do you remember in ' 62 Meredith and I took the Volks here after gradu- ation? I enjoyed it so much that I now run a VW bus service from Topsfield to Chicago non-stop. Doug: Oh yeah? And what ' s Meredith Ander- son doing these days? Fran: Haven ' t you heard? Shewas the Nobel prize winner for literature last year, along with Paul Dineen, the poet laur- eate of England. They went to Wash- ington to meet Joan Trudel, our class- mate and first woman president of the United States. I heard that Karen Faircloth was down there too, picket- ing for the resurgence of the Old South. Doug: Gee, they ' re really coming up in the world. Did you hear about our former classmates who joined the Navy? Bill Rooney has his own naval base on the Lake Street Reservoir. Frank Karay- ianes is the drummer in Bill ' s base band. Dave Feher has become an admiral aboard a ship named after him, the USS Feher Weather. John Sibley and Paul Smerczynski are running a PXonthe same base. Sandy Peterson is hostess at their cafeteria. Fran: And you know a good many of our class- mates have gone into politics. Bruce Miller is a busy Boston politician whose sole recreation is map reading. And remember quiet Dick Leary. Well, he ' s on his third day of fili- buster at the Senate. Karen Hogan is a representative to the UN, and John Marciano has assumed the post of UN ammunition distributor. Doug: Yes, and on a smaller scale we have David French, who is presently mayor of Boxford. Sharon Klock is his sing- ing s e c r e t a ry . And you know, I ' ve heard that Juliet Giannino is the new leader of the KKK. It ' s really amaz- ing. And a lot of our classmates are now stars in the ent ertainment field. Bob Lawson is lead trumpeter for the Boston Pops. Pat Covington is presently singing at the Hungry i in San Francisco. Val Marcley ' s also in the jazz spotlight; she ' s the new re- placement for Annie Ross in the LHR group. Helen O ' Connor is now one of the Rabettes on Playboy ' s Penthouse. Wasn ' t it a riot the way Hugh Hefner stole our chorus line name? Fran: Yes, it was. And you know, I went to the movies recently and saw Dickie McLeod in ' the lead role of Streetcar Named Desire. The cartoon feature with that par tic ular picture was Deputy Dawg Rides Again, starring Tom Bedell as Deputy Dawg. And Wayne Banks is now doing the fainting stunts for MGM. Doug: Yeah, and they ' re bringing back the Joe E. Brown style in comedy, star- ring Pete Kushmick and his cavern- ous mouth. Carol Pearson and Martha Gay are now R R singers. Martha has taken the stage name of Always B. Gay. Caroline Edwards just recently joined the Kingston Trio; I heard she ' s doing a great job. Fran: Glad to hear it. There are also a good number of our classmates prominent in the sports world. Carla Dayton just won the Kentucky Derby. Unfortunate- ly, she forgot to mount her horse at the start of the race, but Pam Barrows and George Durkee got great shots of her crossing the finish line. Bob Holter is presently catching for the Yankees. I also heard that June King won the recent Olympic marathon race. Dave Churchill and Cathy Riley were runners-up in that race. Dick Goodale came in fourth on his bike. It was quite an event. Doug: I guess so. You know, Sandy LeBel is athletic director at Masconomet now. Dave Leary is presently superin- tendent of our Alma Mater. And Bill Pearson has a permanent position as monitor up there. Mary Ann Blaisdell, who ' s working in the school cafeteria, has just turned out her 4,467,982nd cake. I also heard the Dennis Woroby is official truant officer for the region- al district. And remember how great Shedd Webster was at math? Well, he ' s now in the school cafeteria as a cashier. Fran: No kidding? There are a lot of other people prominent on the local scene. Ernie Parziale was just promoted to the position of head soda jerk at Fraher ' s Drug Store. Frank Purdy is counselor at the Happy Day Boys ' Camp. Brian Sanger has a lucrative business as keysmith in town and Nora Silva runs the local gas station. And did you hear about Ernie Johnson? He ' s a bullfighter at Meredith Farm. Jill Ballengee is a medical secretary to Bob Hargraves, the renowned gigg- ling veterinarian. Doug: And get old Jay Holman ! He just in- herited a chain of regional high schools. Sue and Sandy Ingalls have taken over their mother ' s hair dress- ing business. Customers often ask Which twin has the Toni? They have added a continental touch to their business too with Doug Mierzykowski -- Mr. Douglas. And speaking of hair styling, Linda Burke is working at Boston City Hospital as the only hair stylist on the staff. Fran: I went to the Busy Bee for dinner the other night. A1 Barnes has just invent- ed a fabulous new gimmick: the Bee Burger. It consists of a roll and six million fried bees. I saw Jim O ' Meara 108 CLASS PROPHECY there. He told me about his very profitable business as a Chevy sales- man. And you remember, how the cops used to hang around the Bee? Well, Registrar Dave Hebert and his worthy assistant Gordon Sheldon were both there. I heard they were looking for Donna Harries on a speeding rap. Incidentally, Donna won the Grand Prix last year. Doug: Speaking of cars, Pat and Emily Sullivan are the new co-owners of Sullivan ' s Garage in Danvers. They just did a remarkable remodeling job on Dick Taylor and Rusty Smith ' s stunt car. You know, the one they flipped over in. Fran: Another big wheel in the automobile business is Tommy Ralph, who manu- factures Austin 850 ' s in the shape of tomato cans --or is it tomato cans in the shape of Austin 850 ' s? Doug: Some of our former classmates went on to college. Butch Cameron is a psychology professor at M.I.T. Paul Castle finally made it to M.I.T. also. He ' s head janitor there. Fran: Did you know that Louise Thompson has a Husband D e t e c ti v e Agency? Bob Sanborn is one of her best men and Priscilla Noyes is his invaluable Girl Friday. And John Nelson is a pro- fessional heavy for the agency. Doug: Speaking of heavies, remember little Linda Mitchell? Well, you ' d never believe it, but she ' s a lady wrestler now. Fran: Going from heavies to littles, do you remember Judi? Well, she just won the Home-Maker of the Year Award. Yesterday I just bought a new dress called the Knapp Sack. It was design- ed by our old friend, Karen Knapp. Doug: And guess what I had for breakfast this morning! Rice Krippes, the new cereal put out by Mary Ann. The sales jingle is Rice Krippes: snap, crackle, and Mary Ann! Fran: Well, anyway, I was telling you about my new Knapp Sack ... I bought it at Bonwit T e 1 1 e r ' s , now owned by Stephanie Crance. Pam Berlyn, Sandy Lawrence, and Lois Elliott are all modeling clothes there. Pam had to lose thirty pounds before she quali- fied, but she finally made it. Doug: I went to the circus last month and saw some of our other classmates there. Debby Gates is a Brown Bear trainer. She really knows howto handle those bears. Dick Thompson has a trained tractor act, and Bruce Gaboriault is the Cotton Candy King. Glenn Frazier handles the trapeze acts. He ' s amazing. Sharon Moody is his partner. She ' s the only trapeze artist in the world who can dance while doing a double flip into the air. And Annette McCoubrey is the high diver; she dives from a 500-foot platform into a can of beans. Fran: Yow! I was reading PLAYBOY maga- zine the other day and noticed that Sandy Chadwick is subscription editor. They ' re doing a big feature on Joanne Gowen and her magic clarinet. They call her the Benny Goodman of the classical world. By the way, Dick Underhill is doing the lighting for the PLAYBOY photographs. Doug: I was reading that issue too. Did you notice the articles on Karen Asbjorn- son? She ' s a research worker in the field of allergies. There was also a column by the world champion bridge player, Cheryl Edgar. She gives in- structions on how to play bridge in three easy lessons. Fran: A great number of our classmates have gone into serious lines of business. Ted Barrows is an architect. He de- signed the m o na st e r y that Frank Colburn is in. Jack Lawson is marriage counselor in Hollywood. Doug: Speaking of Hollywood, Barbara Ring is a wig manufacturer there. She fin- ally found a solution for her hair prob- lem. Judy Rollfs assists Barb. They recently created a special wig for that balding, but still handsome heavy- weight champion John S. Demars. Fran: And I heard that Carol Ann Cole and Mary Lou Whelan are occupational therapists in Hollywood. Needless to say, they don ' t have many patients. Sam Green is also employed in California in the orange groves. He ' s an orange picker, and he doesn ' t use a ladder ! Doug: Bill Fiedler is running a dance studio. I’ve heard that he gave some instruct- ions to Arthur Murray and Brenda Wise, who was voted Miss Loquacious of the twentieth century. Fran: Listen, did you hear that Roddy Gaskell is playing in a new Mr. Peepers series? Charlie Burnes is his co-star as the math teacher. David Fadden is the developmental reading teacher in the series. Carol Griggs directs the show, with Ruth Cunningham doing the VW commercials. Doug: And Dick Wilkins has just opened up a fish hatchery for his own personal use. Heather Galloway is doing the plumbing work for his many tanks. Fran: I read the newspaper yesterday and noticed that Linda Cabral has been ap- pointed Portugal ' s new dictator. I also saw Mary Lee Gavigan ' s Ford Auto Body Shop ad. I hope she ' s more successful with her Fords than she was when she was at old MRHS. Doug: I read recently too that Rosemarie Walsh has patented a new invention for retaining dimples in old age. She uses clothespins. Fran: Gee, I hope old Jack Holley is doing all right. He’s a tester for Propane Torches you know. Gosh, look at the time, Doug. I ' ve got to be going. Doug: Great talking with you, Fran. See you later. 109 PROM ▼ 7 L fc ' T i Y fit i a; lil GRADUATION EXERCISES CLASS HISTORY When the first Sophomore class of Masconomet Regional High School arrived, it looked normal, acted normal, smelled normal . . . Yes, because it WAS normal. A little slow, perhaps, but normal. Slow, but normal. It seems, however, that we were under the influence of a certain disease which went un- recognized until our first feeble attempt at a class project, the Harvest Ball, which was, guess what . . . A flop. That ' s right. A flop. But not just an ordinary flop. A miserable flop. This was the first clue to our condition. It was then we were told the horrible truth. We were sick. We were more than sick. The Cotillion was a success. At last the class of ' 62 showed signs of recovery. At last ! At long, long, last. Unfortunately, the shock of this was so great as to occasion a minor setback. At this point, medical advisers of impressive background were called in. Hail ! But even they could not quite believe the seriousness of our situation until it was im- pressed upon them by the half-hearted effort midway in our Senior year - otherwise known as the Mistletoe Ball. Immediately the two experts set to work. Hail Mr. P. They called forth all their experience. Hail Mrs. B. After all, they needed it. Through superhuman effort, they guided us out of the darkness. Out of the darkness, into the light. S j - 3 0 z u a. h V) j OQ D 0 Wewere sick, sick, sick. Yes, we had contracted a rare disease called lazy-slob-itis for which there was no known cure. Alas ! As we entered our Junior year, however, we acquired another clue as to the nature of our illness. We discovered that the consumption of chocolate, particularly in bar form, with nuts, had a profoundly unfortunate effect on the victims. The one favorable aspect was that, as our condition declined, the Clearasil sales rose steadily. (A11 clap) There seemed to be no solution. Advice was offered from all quarters, but there was no change until the Junior Prom. Out of the pit. Out of the vile pit. We recovered miraculously. A11 hail, Masconomet. Not only were we a smashing success with our Senior Frolics, but we produced, with the added effort of a certain English teacher who shall remain nameless . . . . . . because he blushes . . . the KALEIDOSCOPE . . . Yea 1 Masconomet Alma Mater . . . Yea ! J 0 0 z 3 3 3 d - i J u I J C (Read in chorus) A new name for the yearbook . . . (Mixed cheers) Masconomet, we thank you. Lo and behold.
