The band’s participation in the Northeastern District Music Festival, playing for football games, pep rallies, assemblies, and holding a Spring Concert, a “Concert on the Green,” and an exchange concert with the Bedford High School Band have all contributed to make life at Masconomet more enjoyable through music. Under the expert gui dance of their director Mr. Donald M. Gay, the Masconomet Singers have participated in many pro- grams. They have given two excellent performances at our spring concerts, have participated in two Northeastern Music Festivals at which they received an excellent rating, and have recorded several Christmas selections for presentation over radio station WLYN. A We held our Junior Prom in the Archi- bald Jones Auditorium at 8 o’clock on May 6, 1960. The theme of our dance was Blue Willow. Music was provided by the Billy Rich Orchestra. Judy Davis was chosen Queen of the Junior Prom with a court in- cluding Nancy Munroe, Nancy Clarke, Patty Earl, Joyce Dodds, Karin Mueller, and Diane McBride. SPRING The Decorating Committee, under the di- rection of its chairman, Karin Mueller, turned the Gymnasium into an Oriental garden. In the center of the floor an arched bridge spanned a lotus pool from whose edge a graceful willow tree towered above the dancers. This was unquestionable the most beautiful dance of our Masconomet career. You’ve seen the golden harvest of seniors Ripe for fun, for work, and for college. You’ve also seen the wigwams Full of younger maidens and braves, Each growing in wisdom and knowing His future depends on how he behaves. You’ve seen our industrious leaders, Who have given Masconomet a name; And you’ve observed the mighty warriors, Who have also brought our tribe fame. Now turn forward and back To the gay life we’ve led, To the learning we’ve mastered. To the fun we have had. To the mischief we’ve done, To the friends we have made ; To the joys, to the noise That will never fade. VAN PELT JOINED US On January 25, 1961, our tribe assembled to pay tribute to Dr. Luther Howard, one of our most beloved tribal elders. Following scenes of his service to our chief Masconomet, which included teaching algebra and his secret method of success, we presented him with a yearbook, a clock radio, and a Masonic ring. Dr. Howard was respected and ad- mired by all, and the friendship and guidance he gave to each of us will never be forgotten. N We were fortunate in securing before many moons a young man well qualified to teach mathematics. He is Mr. Donald Van Pelt (at left). He comes to us from Plymouth Teachers College, Plymouth, New Hamp- shire, where he will receive his Bachelor of Education degree this June. Mr. Van Pelt teaches arithmetic and algebra here at Masconomet, and he particularly enjoys coaching the mathemat- ics team. We are glad to wel- come Mr. Van Pelt to our res- ervation. Hard at Work...
