To Reverend Mother Marie Helene, ninth Superior- General of the Sisters of Providence in America, the Marywood graduates of '49 affectionately dedicate The Marywood. With happy hearts they present to Reverend Mother this souvenir of their Mary Days and Ways at Mary's School, where Mother herself taught previous to her appointment as Instructor of Latin at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Of those Marywood years she has always held cherished memories. Such reminiscences, however, are not Mother's alone to re- call, for at Marywood as in all other places where she lived and taught she herself has left behind her beauti- ful memories for others to recall-memories of kindness and generosity, of unselfish service. and of deep sin- cerity of purpose. Following her years as Instructor of Latin at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Mother Marie Helene served for five years as Secretary to Mother Mary Ber- nard, whose death occurred on October 6. 1948. In the broader field of responsibility which is now hers as successor to Mother Mary Bemard and as Superior- General of the Congregation ot the Sisters of Providence which numbers approximately twelve hundred mem- bers, may Mother Marie Helene and those who labor with her for God's interests continue to prosper through His blessing and guidance. lust inside the main entrance at Marywood stands a beautiful statue of the Sacred Heart, bespeaking kind- liness, welcome, and divine protection. This statue is a tangible bond between Mother Marie Helene and Mary- wood, for it was a gift of Mother's relatives to Marywood through her in the years when she was teaching here. To this dear Sacred Heart today the Marywood grad- uates of '49 pray for Mother's happiness and success. Through the Sacred Heart they pledge continued loy- alty and devotedness, and in His hands they place this souvenir of their happy high school days . . .
