By central area of the open campus is meant in general that area bounded by the outside limits of the athletic fields, Carnegie Hall, the Chapel, and the Hospital. - Maryville College Standards and Rules September, 1937 • I li m ' ' ' Maryuille College began in 1902 in a small log cabin similar to the one depicted here, it was built by our founder, Issac Anderson and was closed in 1812. The Elizabeth Voorhes Memorial Chapel was built on campus in 1906 and was destroyed by fire in 1947. Baldwin Hall was a girls residence and was built in 1871. In 1968 it was removed from campus. The rest of the buildings should look familiar to you: Anderson, Lamar Memorial Library, Ralph Max Lamar Memorial Hospital, Carnegie, Thaw Hall, and at the bottom of this page - Willard. ■ jjj— j jgfc |fc«(pM !R- ' i9S ' J|WMP ' ' P ' .m-m- ' - - ' ' ' - ' - W : - ' ' 9 -- i Maryuille College - Its history surrounds us each and every day. These eight buildings, and Willard House on the title page, have been named part of a historic district in Maryvillc. Anderson is the oldest building on campus and was completed in 1870. Lamar Memorial Library, now the Center for Campus Ministry and formerly the Post Office, was completed in 1888. Willard House, also known as the President ' s Residence, was completed in 1890. Fayerwcathcr Science Hall was completed in 1901. The Ralph Max Lamar Memorial Hospital and Carnegie Hall were both completed in 1910. Pearson ' s Hall was also completed in 1910 with the third and fourth stories being added in 1912. The dining hall annex was finished in 1935. Construction on Thaw Hall was finished in 1922. ROYALTY OF 1961 The Royalty of 1961 came from three events very popular at that time: Homecoming, Barnwarming and the May events. On this page are some pictures from the 1961 Homecoming events. In the bottom right-hand corner is Ninajo Tarver, homecoming queen that year. On the opposite page is Sandra Poole and George Poland, the Barnwarming Queen and King and next to that is Peggy Reid, the 1961 May Queen. The candids on that page all come from the May events that year. 0 „„u; V ,„.f THROUGH THE YEARS _=k 1982 HOMECOMING COURT SENIOR Rebecca Cole escorted by Peter Davis SENIOR: Kathy Long escorted by Bryan McFarland SENIOR Beckle Haynes escorted by Frank Fisch SENIOR: Shelley Kingsbury escorted by Greg Drl SENIOR Sheryl Moore escorted by Butch Varker 18 ■ Great Scots JUNIOR: Kim Hatfield escorted by David Klrkpatrlck SOPHOMORE; Adrlenne Ramsey escorted by Robert Loray FRESHMEN; Molly Kennedy escorted by Tom LaMasters Great Scots ■ 19 Right; Sponsors - Harry Howard, Russell Parker, Charlotte Beck, Victor Schoen, and David Cartlidge.
