Moon alley starts, ends Panther season The 1983 varsity football team, accord- ing to the Arizona Republic, was a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde team. Starting the season against a much larger H1 ranked Moon Valley team, the Panthers were handed a dis- heartening 36-6 defeat, despite Mary- vale's touchdown in the first minute. Game two brought out the Hyde team, and the helpless Apollo Hawks were shut-out 14-0. Although Anthony Jones runs with the ball a lot ftop left, lower left and top rightj, Maryvale boasts several good backs including Darryl Williams flower centery helped by Tim Phillips and Quarterback Richard Wooten Qlower rightl 20 Sports The next Friday found the Panthers in Tempe against the Tempe Buffalos. Led by Clark Osborne and Tony jones with 115 and 106 yards rushing and Chris Hudak's three touchdowns, the team crushed Tempe with a final score of 49-13. The Cats faced Tolleson at home on October 1. Touchdowns by Hudak and Osborne finished the Wolverines hopes for victory, 20-16.
