There are two or three students working every hour. While working in the Library , they receive one credit a semester. Today’s Stars Travel Tomorrow This year ' s Youth For Understanding students were Dawn Kerbyson and Esther Hugenholtz . Dawn spent the summer in Sweden. She returned to the U.S. the end of August. Esther ' s home is in Ocgstgeest, Holland. She came to the U.S. about the same time Dawn returned from Sweden. Esther is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Greenhoe. Both YFU students graduated from Marysville High School in June. Esther will go home to Holland sometime between July 1 0-25. Esther Hugenholtz and Dawn Kerbyson Growing Stars Govern Tomorrow Jim Mathers, Mark Zimmer, Julie Evans, Mary Miller, Jim Bixler. The 1978 Boys ' and Girls ' Wolverine State were held at Michigan State University and Olivet University respectively. Mock state governments were set up in both places. The representatives were chosen for: (1) Leadership , (2) Awareness of government , (3) Mental Alertness , (4) Vigor , Enthusiasm and Responsibility , plus (5) Ability to get along with others. Jim Mathers , Jim Bixler and Mark Zimmer were sponsored by the American Legion Post 449 , Marysville Special Police and the Lions ' Club. Julie Evans and Mary Miller were supported by the American Legion Women ' s Auxiliary. The young people were placed in mock cities and counties. They participated in government activities such as elections , mock trials and party conventions. A guest speaker was Democratic Senator Carl Levin. YFU GIRLS ' AND BOYS ' ST A TE - 27

Past Memories Still Shine Brightly SEPTEMBER DECEMBER MARCH 5 - All the stars started the 1978-79 year at MHS. 13 — Band students tried on newt uniforms . 14 — Student Council met. 15 - First Amplifier of 1978-79 sold. 18 - Campus Life roller skated at the Gardens. 20 — Sophomores ordered class rings. 21 — Golf team beat Anchor Bay , 22-35. First NHS Meeting. 27 — Senior Play tryouts. 28 — Selling and Advertising class visited the Times Herald. Homecoming court elected. OCTOBER 2 - Valhallas Pom Pon Squad Drill Team tryouts. 3 - Ninth graders took DAT test at the American Legion. 4 — Algonac Muskrats lost to Vikings’ Freshmen team 37-22. 9 — Girls ’ Varsity Club held first meeting. 12 — Majorettes performed for Homecoming parade. JV Football topped Marine City 33-6. 13 — Homecoming Game. Julie Evans crowned 1978 Homecoming Queen. 20 - Varsity Football conquered Oscoda 27-14. 24 — Juniors took National Merit Test. 29 — French Club went apple picking. 30 - Yearbook staff sold 1979 Viking. NOVEMBER 6 — Seniors voted on color of caps and gowns. 8 - Sophomores held a bake sale. 13 — Fall Sports Banquet — Awards to the stars! 16 17 — Senior Class presented Harvey. 28 — Seniors measured for caps and gowns. 30 — Dawn Kerbyson showed her slides of Sweden with her sister, Anna. 5 — First JV and Varsity Basketball game against Romeo. 13 — Marysville High School Band and Stage Band performed in new uniforms. 14 — International Thespian Honor Society Initiation Dinner. 15 — Sophomore Class rings arrived. 21 — Campus Life had Christmas Party. 23 — Christmas break began. JANUARY 3 - Registration for second semester. 8 — JV Volleyball conquered Imlay City. 10 - Varsity Volleyball defeated Cros-Lex. 13 — Marysville Wrestling Invitational; Vikings placed third. 15 — Sophomore class sponsored a ‘ Bean-Counting Contest. ” 16 — Freshman Basketball conquered Port Huron Northern 54-46. 18 — Ski Club skied at Pine Knob. 19 - Junior Prom. All the stars “dreamed” away the evening. 31 — Tryouts for Junior Play Our Town. FEBRUARY 4 — Travel Club traveled to the Americana for a fabulous Chinese Dinner. 5 — Campus Life sponsored a Burger Bash and Concert. 8 — Thespians showed Oklahoma. 14 — Skill Center sold carnations. 15 — Woodland Aides participated in Special Olympics. 16 — Coming Home Queen — Lori Mieksztyn and King — Jeff Simmons. 17 — Coming Home Dance — “ Yankee Fire ” fired up the students. Hockey Team defeated Southgate 6 - 0 . 28 — Swim Team Invitational — Marysville placed third. 15 16 - Academy Award winners starred in Our Town. 29 BOEC holds 7th annual Typing-Spelling Contest APRIL 9-16 - All the stars blinked out ten days! 19 — JV Baseball played Port Huron Northern. 27 — Boys’ Track - Marysville Relays. 28 — Girls’ Track - Port Huron Relays. MAY 10-12 — Musical Oklahoma. 12 — City Tournament for Girls’ Softball and Boys’ Varsity Baseball. 15 — Freshman Baseball played Lutheran East. 21-25 - Viking Week. 28 -Marching Band performed for Memorial Day Parade. 29 — Baccalaureate. 30 — Senior Concert and Dinner. 31 - Last Day for Seniors. Honors to the Stars of ’79. JUNE 1 - Senior Prom. They followed “ The Long and Winding Road. ” 3 - Commencement. The Stars of ’79 blinked their last goodbyes to MHS 7 — Last day of school for underclassmen. CALENDAR - 29
