Today’s Stars Travel Tomorrow This year ' s Youth For Understanding students were Dawn Kerbyson and Esther Hugenholtz . Dawn spent the summer in Sweden. She returned to the U.S. the end of August. Esther ' s home is in Ocgstgeest, Holland. She came to the U.S. about the same time Dawn returned from Sweden. Esther is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Greenhoe. Both YFU students graduated from Marysville High School in June. Esther will go home to Holland sometime between July 1 0-25. Esther Hugenholtz and Dawn Kerbyson Growing Stars Govern Tomorrow Jim Mathers, Mark Zimmer, Julie Evans, Mary Miller, Jim Bixler. The 1978 Boys ' and Girls ' Wolverine State were held at Michigan State University and Olivet University respectively. Mock state governments were set up in both places. The representatives were chosen for: (1) Leadership , (2) Awareness of government , (3) Mental Alertness , (4) Vigor , Enthusiasm and Responsibility , plus (5) Ability to get along with others. Jim Mathers , Jim Bixler and Mark Zimmer were sponsored by the American Legion Post 449 , Marysville Special Police and the Lions ' Club. Julie Evans and Mary Miller were supported by the American Legion Women ' s Auxiliary. The young people were placed in mock cities and counties. They participated in government activities such as elections , mock trials and party conventions. A guest speaker was Democratic Senator Carl Levin. YFU GIRLS ' AND BOYS ' ST A TE - 27

Some of them went apple picking , bowling , sledding, and even to an Hawaiian Luau with their students from Woodland school This year a little more was expected from the aides. They attended all monthly seminars , turned in monthly write-ups, and did a project for each semester besides going every day and working with the students. There are two or three students working every hour. While working in the Library , they receive one credit a semester.
