Those were such happy times £ $ y v And not so long ago U A otv wondered where they ' d gone ft § they ' re back again Just like a long lost friend 4 the Sottas loved so well. Ue : se :♦ : x 33®s: MARYSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL MARYSVILLE, MICHIGAN To Mrs. Shirley Bellow for her dedication as yearbook advisor for nine years. What is friendship? It is many things — It is feeling completely natural with another, shedding all pretense and all shame, just being yourself. It is sharing with another both big and little things, joy and sorrow, laughter and tears. It is counting on another to understand your moods, to put up with your failings, to be there when needed most with a word of encouragement, a smile, a look. How do we know what friendship is? We know because you are our friend, and you are ALL these things. VARSITY CLUB - 134 Homecoming 1974 — The Class of ’ll moved up the ladder of success with a third place float entitled The Victory Shell Come Tor-toise. The Sophomores constructed their work of art at the home of Mark and Marchel Feick. The Sophomores showed the pride and enthusiasm they have for their class when they elected Mary Ann Albert to represent them on the queen ' s court. Mary Ann was escorted by Pat Miller. The first homecoming for the Class of ' 78 showed great things can be expected from them in the future. Their float We ' re the Real Thing held fourth place in the float competition and showed great imagination. The Freshmen spent many long hours working on the construction of their float at the home of Paul and Stevy Booth. The Freshmen again showed their potential for the future when they elected Darcy Warner to be their representative to the queen ' s court. When Darcy walked onto the football field, escorted by Sophomore Tim Westbrook, everyone knew the first homecoming of the Class of ' 78 was truly a success. The Show Must GO ON! The Juniors pulled themselves together with a second-place winning float built at the home of Dan Lents. The theme of the float was We ' ll Mush ' Em Till They Croak. The Juniors were proud of their choice of homecoming representative when they saw MaryAnn Vanlerberghe out on the field homecoming night. i + L Pocket a Victory is just what the Seniors did with their float of the same name. In first place, the Seniors won the float building competition and made the Seniors ' last homecoming a memorable one. To make the homecoming as lovely and exciting as it could be, the Class of ' 75 chose three girls for queen candidates who were all equally lovely. The charm and personality of Casie Boerre, Sue Burns, and Brenda Churchill made election of a queen a very difficult decision for the entire school. i N-.X ' r - -11 — l SKS i ■ V Standing: Tim Westbrook, Pat Miller, Mark Hern, Tom Malone, Joe Lasher, Dave Perry. They began to work on the last day of the ' 74 school year by staging the first of many paper collections. The Staff, headed by Editor Patricia McHenry, worked on the paper drive throughout the summer and until March of the ' 75 school year. Besides the paper drive, the Viking Staff sponsored many other money-making projects. They sold pictures and posters during the noon hours and went to many different businesses selling advertising space in the yearbook. All proceeds from various projects went to providing a bigger and better yearbook for the students. I -s The play, MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE, was performed for the student body May 10 at 1:00 p.m. The evening performance was well attended by the public. The play opened up with Stanley Nichols, a young author, taking a year off to write the great American Novel. Unknown to anyone except his immediate family is the fact that Stanley has written a series of children ' s stories under the pen name of Grandma Letty. When he is voted Grandmother of the Year, reporters, newsreel photographers, and the publisher descend on the quiet Nichols household to meet and interview Grandma. Afraid that, if he is exposed as a juvenile writer, it will hurt his chances for his new novel, Stanley has to produce a Grandma. After all else fails, he impersonates the great lady. Matters get more complicated when the publisher proposes, the reporters suspect a scoop and won ' t leave, and his wife demands he tell the truth or she will leave him. The truth came forth when Stanley ends up revealing he really was Grandma Letty. Backstage Crew - Third Row: Bill Rogers, Steve Keener, Assistant Director; Joe Schulte, Randy Moore, Ken Cash. While attending school at Marysville, Jukka has stayed with Joe Schulte and his family. Jukka can speak English very well, having studied it for 6 years. However, American slang confuses him. Jukka delighted in watching television, playing football, skiing, and eating lots of hamburgers and hot dogs. Jukka said he enjoyed his visit to America very much. The 1974 Youth for Understanding Scholarship winner was Karin Spencer. The first 24 days Karin stayed in Greece, where she studied their way of life and went sight-seeing. The last three days of her visit Karin had the opportunity to stay in Switzerland. Maybe some day she will go back and stay longer, but for now Karin said that all students should try for the scholarship because it is not every day a student has the chance to visit a foreign country.
