Negative expressions seldom, if ever, lead to realization ot ones hopes and aspirations. Leadership is expressed when one works con- sistently ior the good of the group and devotes his efforts to that end. The Senior Class of i959 has made a good beginning. They have set goals tor themselves, and have consistently, during the year, expressed their scholastic determination to achieve the goals so necessary to the rising society ot their age. May they continue to express by word, and by deed, the hopes and ideals which make our America so loved by us all. Lawrence A. The recording of these events shows hovv vve, as students, chose to express ourselves in school life. It is in the spirit of expression, Uindividual expres- sion, that we, the Quil Ceda Staff, subn it this annual for your approval. The difficult task of conpiling this history of school life has only been accomplished by the efforts of all staff rrenrbers, the student-body, 'civic neinded businessmen, and the help of our advisors. For this, our sincere thanks. The staff hopes the 1959 Quil Ceda will bring back pleasant nrerrories through the years ahead. 0154. Both of the rockets supplied much of the information that is needed tor space travel. This year we began to clean house in the labor unions. Meanwhile, in Cuba, Fidel Castro was also cleaning house with his revolutionist guerrillas. Hour-long T.V. westerns such as Maverick , Sugarloot , and Cimarron City became pop- ular, while 77 Sunset Strip was one of the better cloak and dagger programs. This was also a year of many tragedies lor those in the field of entertainment. Mike Todd the great movie producer died, Richie Valens, J. P. iBig Bopperi Richardson, and Buddy Holly were killed in an airplane crash, and, of course, Elvis Presley was drafted into the Army and transferred to Germany. The Chipmunk Song became a very popular record around Christmas time, while One Night Smoke Gets in Your Eyes , and Lonesome Town were a few of the biggest selling records of the year. The most popular singers this year were Ricky Nelson, Elvis Presley, Frankie Avalon, and Pat Boone. This was the year for big lads. Hula Hoops became popular and every one was doing the Cha- cha-cha, while many girls wore short hair, shaggy sweaters, leotards and short skirts. And this year we began to use our new Physical Education Plant and Cafeteria. YES, THIS HAS TRULY BEEN A GREAT YEAR' , A . .hr jug vm t. . m,f.'.f r iv .M ,N .
