I 6 QD Baseball The Varsity Monarch Baseball Team en- joyed one of their more successful seasons in recent years as they were Champions of the Buckeye Division of the C.B.L. The Monarchs were 17-8 for all games and their 11-5 league record was two games better than runner-up Dublin's 9-7 league record. This seasons suc- cess can be attributed in large part to a very potent offense which produced an average of 7.7 runs per game for the 25 game season. The .311 team batting average and 191 runs scored were the highest offensive totals for the past 8-10 years. Dennis Gallogly 1.4483, Mark Clarridge 1.4133, Chris Schimmel 1.3813, and Eric Howard 1.3643 were the top hitters on this year's squad. Dennis led the team in hits 1393, home runs 143, game winning hits 143, on base percentage 1.5773, and was second in RBl's with 28. Mark led the team in doubles 1103, triples 153, RBl's 1293, walks 1193, and lowest strike out average 14 in 100 plate ap- pearances3. Chris led the team in runs scored 1293, being hit by the pitcher 143, and was se- cond in stolen bases 1163. Jim Schneider led the team in stolen bases with 19. Eric Howard was the top pitcher with a 6-1 record and Rob Horney contributed heavily to our success with a 4-4 record and 5 saves. Defense was also a strong point with Sean Hall having the highest fielding average among infielders 1.9433, Mark Clarridge among pitchers and catchers 1.9833, and Chris Schimmel among outfielders and first basemen 1.9523.
