N - BCQJYWS 1 Season of Excitement :nl ' 5 The 1986-87 Marysville basketball team completed one of the most successful seasons in recent history. Their 12-9 record was the best for a Monarch squad since 1976-77. The team was comprised of seven seniors, seven returning Iettermen, and two new players who transferred rom other schools. Expecta- tions were high and the team worked hard to achieve victory. The season started with a heartbreaking loss 161-591 to Jonathon Alder. Followed by a nightmarish perfor- mance at Delaware, the Monarchs struggled to find themselves going 2-5 into Christmas break. Then things began to fall into place. They put together a great performance in a 64-63 win against Bexley. In one of the most dramatic finishes, lone second was put back on the clockj, Chris Schimmel threw a full court pass to Tony Fuller who banked in a shot at the buzzer. The win was only the start of three straight one-point victories. ln any season the Fairbanks game is a contest in which pride is the most important goal. This year was an exceptional game. Marked by the stream of toilet paper to start the game the crowd which filled the gym became emotionally involved. Both teams played their hearts out as Marysville prevailed in a 64-56 overtime win. Success followed as the Monarchs finished the season, highlighted by Jon Neely's climb to second place in the all time scoring ranks. The Monarchs were a group which faced adversity in the early going, but found a way to overcome their hard times and have a great year. Congratulations to one of the best Marysville basketball teams in recent years. RSITY VA 45 C939 W no m W' co H 5' Ei Kneeling: Jon Neely, Joe Wilkerson, Tony Fuller, Doug Sabins, Ken Kaufman.
