THE YEAR IN REVIEW The Year in Review as Do You Remember - 1987? M.H.S. goes on and on, day after day, year after year with the important events making news among the stu ent body. Several years later we will still be able to remember our Homecoming queen, our Favorite eacher, our Best Friend. But will we be able to remember some of The Major News events of the year? The year started with Mrs. Reagan announcing her War on Drugs which was brought to our attention because oft e death of Len Bias. ill Do you remember The U. of aryland Basketball Star who was drafted by The Boston Celtics but died of cocaine one week later? Will his death make a difference in the years to come? Do you remember when The Ferry, The Herald of Free Enterprise sunk? Someone left the main doors open and in came the water and down went The Ferry f2l Pictured here on The Way To he Bottom. Do you remember The big news of early 1987 - The return of The America's Cup? l3l Dennis Conner sailed his Stars 81 Stripes to victory over The Australian Champion Kiwi II. Wall Street was shaken when Ivan Boesky Q43 was caught getting unfair tips on stocks that encouraged an artificial price and caused a drastic decline in The Market. Insider Trading Wall St. rumbles as brokers take unfair ad- vantage of many in- vestors due to the brokers advantageous position. But without a doubt the biggest news of the year centered around President Reagan. First he met the new Russian Premier Gorbachev at the Iceland Summit that was designed to encourage Arms Reduction f5l and then he imposed Trade Sanctions against Japan f6l when the Japanese flooded The Electronic lndustry. The world of politics did have a brighter side as democracy returned to The Phillipines and Corayan Aquino l7l was elected President. Do you remember? 'll Current Events
