MHS Adds Golf To Athletic Program I 3 Roger Stanton, Jim Boss, Jerry Mlanley, Fred BF0Ckm9Y9F, Bill , Blackburn, Adrin Eley, Gene Laverentz. 'i ' ga For the first time since 1953, MHS entered golf competition. Since it has not been played in recent years, there were no returning lettermen, but seven boys were placed on the team roster. The team won its first meet of the year, against Belleville on the Marysville Country Club links on April 11 by the score of 211-220. The next week the team took part in the Beloit 5 Invitational Meet, finishing fifth in fast competition. 'Qs' The Concordia Triangular Meet on April 25 was next for the MHS golfers who finished close behind Concordia for second place. The improving Linksters finished third in the NCKL Meet at Belleville on May 10 behind Concordia and Beloit. Adrin Eley -and Jerry Manley were awarded letters with provisional letters going to Gene Laverentz and Jim Boss. W 0' season's meets. The 'first meet was the Indoor Meet at af . ,f Manhattan on March 24. with MHS failing to grab any points. ' , ' .. 5. . , Four records fell in the next week, the County Invit-ational, ri . : '5'., 4 won by MHS on the MHS cinders. Three of the new meet v ' , .k 3 Pt records were turned in by Marysville: the mile relay team H lg -1 fd tWetzler, R. Gleue, Maendele, Petersonl went the distance in 3:-18.4, and Tebbutt high jumped 5'9 and ran the open half in 2:O7.7. Watervil1e's Hedke threw the javelin 164'5 for the fourth record. The following week the team won six firsts to finish second in the Concordia Triangular Meet with Concordia and Smith Center. Wanamaker won the shot put and discus, Sides took the javelin and pole vault, Tebbutt again won the half mile 5 1 and the mile relay team was victorious for MHS. , gt In the next meet, the Atchison Relays, the Bulldogs met ' - strong A and AA competition and gathered only 1 2X5 points. ' 'S The NCKL meet at Beloit was held on May 6 although cold ,eq S U Q - ,V 5. A-' ' winds hampered the entrants.
