FHA Members Develop leadership The Future Homemakers of America organization is designed primarily to prepare those girls en- rolled in home economics to become better nomemakers. In FHA the girls learn to develop leadership and to promote international goodwill. This was the tenth anniversary of the national organization of FHA. At the anniversary meeting on March 20 a large cake with ten candles, symbolizing a wish for each year of the organization, was used as the centerpiece. The meeting was woven around the ten wishes represented by the candles. There were 128 members in the MHS chapter this year from all four classes. The girls may earn Chapter and Junior Degrees. Nine girls-JoAnn Brauchi, Betty Blanke, JoAnn Pralle, Carol Drever, Mary Ann Gleue, Nancy Grauer, Nila Brauchi, Yvonne Allerheiligen and Sara Eddy-received their Junior Degrees this year and wil-l be eligible to work on Chapter Degrees next year. Members attend-ed several out of town meetings. In October, 26 girls went to Clay Center for the fail conference. The district officers were elected at a meeting at Linn in February. Carol Drever was elected as the second vice-president of District Six. Carol attended the national meeting at Chicago in July. Sixty girls attended the sbate meeting at Topeka in March. The FHA also carried on many activities at home. On March 17 they served lunch to the 4-H clubs on 4-H Day. They put on the annual Twirp Dance on March 23 and conducted Twirp Week in the preced- ing days. In a style show for their mothers on May 1 the girls exhibited the clothes they had made. A national FHA project is the beautification of school grounds. Ten rose bushes have been planted on the school grounds by Karen Kloxin in connection with this project. A summer attraction was camp at Goddard. Delma Lohse, Bette Wolff and Cathie Dexter attend- ed camp the last week of May 1955.
