Dr. Thomas Wood PRESIDENT YEARBOOK LETTER I have said to all of you that our purpose at Marymount is to ask three fundamental questions: Who and what am I? What is the nature of my Universe? How may I most effectively and positively relate to that universe? We have accepted, in addi- tion, the correlative responsibility for improving our learning skills in order that we may push back the barriers of our ig- norance. Yes, we have asked these questions of you, but we must not omit another critical ingredient. All of us are possessed of dreams . . . sometimes fantasies ... but dreamers we should be. Langston Hughes, a black American out of Harlem, who knew about the importance of dreams said it this way: Hold fast to dreams For if dreams die Life is a broken winged bird That cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams For when dreams go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow. There it is - the essence of it. I commend you for your efforts to answer the three questions with their implications for the Importance of acquiring basic skills, but I recommend that you hang onto your dreams. They provide meaning for the blessed mystery . . . Life.
