:?,m ' mmm ' m wm v_ We live, some of us quickly, others with caution, taking time, and the experiences create lines and impressions, pnd our faces, like the sand, show what happens in our souls. n ifNJb INDIVIDUALITY- Dr. Thomas Wood PRESIDENT YEARBOOK LETTER I have said to all of you that our purpose at Marymount is to ask three fundamental questions: Who and what am I? What is the nature of my Universe? How may I most effectively and positively relate to that universe? We have accepted, in addi- tion, the correlative responsibility for improving our learning skills in order that we may push back the barriers of our ig- norance. Yes, we have asked these questions of you, but we must not omit another critical ingredient. All of us are possessed of dreams . . . sometimes fantasies ... but dreamers we should be. Langston Hughes, a black American out of Harlem, who knew about the importance of dreams said it this way: Hold fast to dreams For if dreams die Life is a broken winged bird That cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams For when dreams go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow. There it is - the essence of it. I commend you for your efforts to answer the three questions with their implications for the Importance of acquiring basic skills, but I recommend that you hang onto your dreams. They provide meaning for the blessed mystery . . . Life. Best wishes and continued success as you leave Marymount Palos Verdes College to continue your education or begin your ctiosen career. I fiope you will carry with you, not only what you have learned here, but, also, the friendships you have made, and that our motto, Tua Luce DIrige, (Direct By Thy Light) will direct your future. Sister Carol Brody, R.S.H.M. Academic Dean Sr. Carol Brody, R.S.H.M. Message for the Yearbooi , 1977 My wish for you each and all is that your various ex- periences here at Marymount Palos Verdes College have amalgamated and refined themselves to the point where you have now a clearer sense of purpose and direction. No matter what wall of life you pursue, do so with dignity, integrity, love of your fellow humans and of the God and Father of us all. Each and every Mary- mount College student has had the pleasure of talking to Selena. Indeed, the outer office of the registar ' s headquarters would seem ominous without Selena ' s presence.
