EHLLEM W 3,5 :s-::A MARYCREST COLLEGE DAVENPORT, IOWA Editor I967: Patricia Sheehey W' FOREWO RD On a hill by the sea, Marycrest stands-a center ot stimulation for learning, growing, and gaining a position in lite. Each student is urged forward into that lite through experiences tound on this campus. Marycrest is: A delayed alarm, a rush to class, a thought on a blackboard, a note in a book, o new acquaintance, a call tor a date, warm thoughts of the past, hoping tor the tuture, budding maturity, personality uniqueness, Christian women, and adulthood. This is a book-your book-of lite. The events are always real . . . through COLLEMARIS. 2 COLLEMARIS Collemaris, that l am. On a hill, by the sea. Warm, real, filled with lifes Guarding all the eye may see-and more. With the wind go my love seeds, Sowing the thoughts of remember when, l guard past treasures, joys and tears, For who knows where, and who knows when They are again?-no more. Yet, l am still warm, and real, and full of life With much to offer, much to give. Learn my ways? love my ways. ln you l am able to live-ever more. Lawlor cel- ebrated his golden jubilee of the priesthood in 1966. Honoring him were students, faculty and friends of Marycrest. Tribute was paid at an all-school convocation preceding a dinner in the Petersen Hall dining room. 'ii As Sister Mary Helen, our President, remarked: Even before the formal founding of Marycrest, Monsignor Lawlor served as a friend and counselor to the college. His assistance during the years of his retirement as hnancial and construction advisor has been invaluable as an aid to the girls and to the development of the college. 5 CAMPUS People living in a world of learning move up and down for classes, lectures, talks, exchange of views. thinking searching building ,,... . 3 fflpf 'il A fy v 1,504.6 .1 A 'Y mi' HH discovering God . . .His mys- teries, His love discovering God in the beauty of nature 4 i learning to learn through guides, re- search vm 12 Discovering an invisible world through the magic of science Discovering a teacher as a friend Discovering the challenge of routine work 'M' Z . TRIP sAvER s LEAcH YOU CCH We HOU' ArrAcHABLE coNrAiNERs 2060 here are plans that I must draw. Then let this timid hand of mine Be guided, line for line, With that steady, certain trueness Of the Hand that planned This universe. There are materials I must choose. Then let this casual mind of mine Choose with the wisdom of the Mind That fixed the substances Of things like grass and trees And mountain peaks, There are decisions I must make. Then let me make them with that sureness That divided land and sea, And day and night, the birds that fly And beasts that roam the field. There's a determination I must have. Then let me bind myself unto such things As principles, and truth, and right With that same permanence That holds in their celestial places The sun, and stars, And all the heavens' gems. I've a future I must build. So, let me build it with such care, such tools, such wisdom, And with such a rugged firmness, That all the fiercest thrusts Of host or elements Cannot destroy it. Aye, I've a future I must build , . Let me rise, then, to the task! -Bernard I.
