Young Politicians The purpose of the College Republicans is to bring students into the Republican Party and provide them the opportunity to find political expression and recognition. The students are encouraged to participate In the activities of the Republican party and promote Its Ideals. College Republicans is open to all interested students on campus. In this year of a statewide election, the Young Democrat s Club has been active- ly campaigning for the Democratic can- didates by leaflettln, phone banks, and working at the polls. We also launched a campus wide campaign which included a canvass and a voter registration drive, with a mock election culminating all of our campaign efforts. In addition to these activities, we participate In other pro- jects and social activities acreoo the Commonwealth. Our major goal is to be- come acquainted with the Issues and the workings of our government, and then Inform others on campus of our demo- cratic Ideals. The Student Lobbying Committee is the branch of the Student Association primarily concerned with lobbying on the behalf of the student body. Although a new organization for MWC, Lobby has been active on a variety of levels. On the state level the Committee lobbies the General Assembly in Richmond. In the area of local con- cerns. Lobby has worked with the Fredericksburg City Council to improve city-school relations. On Campus, lobby has pursued various proposals and has followed up the Senate on numerous projects. Among the highlights of the year were a De- cember workshop on the General Assembly and lobbying techniques, a series of trips to Richmond to lobby, a mass mailing c ampaign to the Gener- al Assembly, and a revised party policy proposal for the campus. Membership this year has been open to any interested and concerned student. The group was highly successful in building a large scale lobbying ' effort for the first time in Mary Washington ' s history. Lobby is looking forward to an even better year next year. The purpose of the Newman Club is to foster the spiritual, intellectual and social lives of the Roman Catholic students of Mary Washing- ton. This club is also open to all inter- ested members of the College Community. The CCC implements weekly activities which allow mem- bers of the college community to experience Christian fellowship, to minister to others through music and social projects, and to encourage spiritual and intellectual growth.
