Our Elected Officials The purpose of the Student Asso- ciation is to work for o better Col- lege community through the devel- opment and strengthening of indi- vidual responsibility, citizenship and honor. The Student Association officers acknowledge to the students the following obligations: to represent student opinion actively; to respect the rights of the individual; to culti- vate and uphold the academic and social atmosphere conducive to the fulfillment of the aims of the College; to promote communication, coo- peration and understanding amon students, faculty and administration; and to affirm that the Student Asso- ciation shall continue as a demo- cratic body. The members of the Senate represent all facets of life at Mary Washington, from the residentioal student to the commuting student by attending the open Senate meetings and ac- tively partimipating in one of the six standin committees. Through their legislative action, each senator strives to better the academic, so- cial andother significant aspects of life here at Mary Washington Col- lege. The 1982 Battlefield required the time and dedication of many hard working people. Eventhough the staff was constantly pressed for time to meet deadline dates, it seemed that somehow or other, the staff managed to complete the pages that were due. Many long hours and late nights were spent putting this edition of the Battlefield together, and without the contribu- tions of these students, this book would not hove been possible. CLASS COUNCIL OFFICERS: Laura Hall Trenda Powell, Beth Doyle, Class Council organizes all of the major social functions on campus. These events include Halloween ' s, Beach Weekend, Ring Week, Graduation Week, moview, singers in the pub and Keg parties. The Christmas Bazaar is also sponsored by Class Council and is well publi- cized throughout the area. Class Council works together to try to bring more unity among each class. The people on Class Council work not only with each of their re- spective classes but also with other organizations on campus.
