dedication patience and understanding are requisite qualities for any effective college administrator, we at mar ' Washington are fortunate to have reginald whidden, who possesses both these fine characteristics, as dean of our college. dr. whidden came to mary Wash- ington as a professor of english in 1943. an enthusiastic member of the college community and an energetic leader, he was appointed to the position of assistant dean of the college in 1955. and the follow- ing year he became the associate dean, he had served in that capacity for eleven years when he was ele- vated to dean of the college in 1967. in spite of the pressures involved with the new post, he has continued to teach one class. Shakespeare , his major interest. gi ing freely of his time both as an administrator and as a pro- fessor, dean whidden has estab- lished a warm relationship with many of us. in appreciation for his long service to the college, we rtspectfully dedicate the 1970 bat- tlefield to dr. reginald whidden.
