The pattern of the external registers within the individual as he marks The rhythm of its form. Emulating the functional order, MAN TOO DEVELOPS PATTERNS FOR A LIFE. A complex sameness shadows the student day. Lacking temporal division, yesterday becomes today and then tomorrow. Four years slip by — unmetered time caught in memory by numerous Repetitions: of alarm clocks faithfully ticking away the hours, of familiar routes pursued to oft-entered classrooms, of hasty meals and confused conversation, of bickering and laughing and weeping, of sudden illumination and welcomed understanding of the once obscure, thanks to diligent professor and patient parent.

And how frequently we have: scrubbed slippery test tubes and slides, repeated prescribed phrases for innumerable language tapes, amassed material for last minute term papers, struggled with deceptive trig functions, peered into ever empty mail boxes, found Bavarian cream puffs for dessert, called for a third and a fourth for a quick hand of bridge, stripped mitered beds for laundry day, taken blind dates in hopeful anticipation . . . AND ON AND ON.
