The Battlefield is a memory book for Mary Washington College. A yean life is crammed into a few short pages. The whole story cannot be found here, only pieces, but pieces designed to jog a thought, a remembrance. This book is to be skimmed now, the pictures are to be enjoyed and laughed at, but the time for remembering is not 1967, for the past is still too linked with the present. But when the mist of years haze these days, the Battlefield will serve as a torch to cut through, to bring back perhaps a smile, perhaps a tear, but always a memory ... 0 uiomentAvy joy expevieneed. noise anJ scveAvas excitement And [un, JHHBHHHB I f m w HH ■ ■•- o I f 11 1 boNna I 1 II 1 ' ■ i H 1 t ■ 1 II t - - 0 contusion, 10 11 Oj two fiearfs in commiinicafion. Dean o tfte College 14 For the past thirt -three years. Dr. Edward Alvey, Jr. has watched Mary Washington College grow from a small teacher ' s college to a highly respected liberal arts college for women. His role has not been that of passive observer. Whether on study tours of educational systems in Europe, at national and local meetings, or behind his desk at Mary Washington, Dean Alvey has endeavored to make concrete the highest ideals in education and in honor. To the mul- titude of students who have known him, he has been friend, professor, administrator, fellow student, as well as the most popular entertainer at the campus Christmas party. To Dr. Edward Alvey, we dedicate the 1967 Battlefield. 15 5fie Scnoo L ,r ' s ■ r ij ' : Adminisfrafion 3Aculty Campus Vovmitovies Chsses , ' .v 17 AJminisfrafion C(i2aicellov oj Mary WAsdington College of ide University o VivginiA Dr. Qvellei C.
