' I ' lotlermsimL I am modernism, And I want from life All, All there is to give; Everything, you life, you are to pour Out to my starving soul. Life, You who have mocked me, Taunted, Yes, and have laughed; You are to sweat and give. Give unto me, me weary of heart. Dancing? Yes, and I crave the wine of mirth; Pour it on me until I am drenched. Drunk With laughter and joy. Music? Ah! You life, you fill my soul With your music of laughter and love. Make me sing, life — sing. Love? You taunter, you life you. You siren, who took my love; Give me another to love. Life, You who have robbed me. Give me all — all you have. At first we thought it was a general wreck, with unpractical choruses and medley of unlearned lines; but the laugh was on us. Behind the Veil proved to be one of the most enjoyable benefits given on the hill. The two leading characters, Sally Bargeron and Evelyn Cline. as Bob Brooker and Josephine Hallowell, did much to make the play a success. They were ably assisted by Grace McKenzie, as Alice Ran- dolph; Helen Rice, as Clay Weldon; Mary Rodgers, as Mrs. Hallo- well and Nancy Harding as Mr. Hallowell. The latter added spice and humor by their continuous dispute over the marriage of their daughter. All of the action was made rapid and colorful by the introduction of well-trained girls in the following choruses: Traveling Men, Bridesmaid, Valentine, Bathing Suit, and Night Gown. Ill 5priiig ligliif; I— At my casement window Dreaming .... The gentle spring night greets me; Wraps its soft veil about me. Tosses the white petal of a cherry The wind whispers in the sycamore; blossom against my cheek — Rustles through the wistaria, Bringing to me its incredible sweetness .... There is no moon .... The stars smile at me through a mist of tears. A bird murmurs sleepily in the maple tree .... The loveliness of spring nights! Their aching tenderness!
