There were the traditional floats, beauties, and festivities, but rain changed the story. Hurricane Gladys was determined that she should be Homecoming queen. In spite of her efforts, the floats were judged, the queen was crowned, and the dance was a suc- cess. Only the parade was canceled, but the awards were still given to the three best floats. The French Club float, featuring Around the World in 80 Days, won first place. The Bulldogs continued their fine season with a victory over Pacelli, and Buz Porch's playing won him the annual award given by the Jay- cees to the lTIOSt outstanding player in the Homecoming game. The spirit of Homecoming prevailed, and October 18, 1968, will never be forgotten. The Magic Carpet Ride Like three year olds wait for Christmas, the Juniors and Seniors had waited for the prom since the be- ginning of school. Despite their anxiety over the success of the pro- gram and lead-out, everything went as planned: the night seemed magical. Sparkling decorations, exotic refresh- ments, authentic costumes combined with the resounding vibrations of the Royale V to cast the spell of a Moonlight Oasis. f.-an , ,vi 'PY Y 1 uv. - ..,:.-,ste 9 i f wy- If x .J J l 73: Q,,.i'1.7?:2 , if.. ., U N . . Life's battles don't always go To the stronger or faster man, For sooner or later the man who wins Is the fellow who thinks he can. This philosophy is what the '68 Bulldogs dedicated their season to. Molded by Coach Pitts, Coach Cook, and Coach Dumas into a model of precision, the Mary Persons Bulldogs came on strong in '68 to prove that they really were number one by win- ning the Region 5-B Championship. We tried to take the everyday things - the little that maybe you don't really think about as g a part of your life at Mary Personsg we also tried 'ake the once-in-a-lifetime things - the moments time erased as quickly as they had been created. The staff's enthusiasm and the advisors' helpfulness le made the task interesting, if not easy: they cannot hanked enough. Special thanks go to Mrs. Cromer, let us work independently and yet was always there she was needed. Thanks to the faculty, who were perative under trying circumstances. Thanks also to ds and families who suffered through deadlines and aches with the staff. The job could not have been without them. For the Seniors, the years at Mary Persons have ed. Now we move on to something new, taking . Us memories of the best year Mary Persons has had. But we secretly long to stay and see even br years. The 1969 Empescope is at last a reality. We rf that each picture says something - more than a group clumped together, more than a posed did - something that will reflect the Spirit of '69.
