The STAR Student then selected Mr. James R, Branch, former teacher at Mary Persons, as his STAR Teacher, the teacher who made the greatest con- tribution to the student's scholastic achievement, The announcements were made as a part of the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition QSTARJ program, sponsored statewide by the Georgia State Chamber of Com- merce and locally by the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce. Randy has been one of the most versatile students at Mary Persons I-ligh, where he is a member of the Beta Club, Y-Club, the band, Drama Club, National Honor Society, Forensic Society, French Club, Merry-Go- Round staff, and the Empescope staff, He has held numerous offices in clubs and is presently the editor-in-chief of the school yearbook, Honors are not new to Randy. In addition to maintaining an A+ average in his studies, he has been the recip- ient of two NEDT awards and a National Merit Letter of Commendation. For high academic standing he has received the University of Georgia Certificate of Merit and Most Outstanding Student Honors Day awards in language, mathematics, science, and history. Randy has represented the school on the debate team, in the one- act play, and in declamation. He has placed first in region and state in declamation and was on the debate team thatmatched this record. Musically, he has brought honors to himself, his teacher, parents and school by I placing first in region competition in music for two years and second in state for three years. He also was a state finalist in piano at the GMEA Convention in 1965. Randy has especially valued two honors: being selected by his fellow students as a class favorite and a class superlativeg and being selected to attend the Governor's Honors Program of 1966 where he participated in social studies and drama. He plans to attend Florida State University where he will major in English in preparation for a teaching career, . Mr. Branch, a native of Tattnall County, Georgia, received his education from Lyons High School and Georgia Southern College where he majored in history and minored in English. While in college, he was a Delta Pi Alpha Fraternity member and a representative of the Student Congress, After graduation, he began his teaching career at Mary PCISOHS, teaching EHg1iSh and hiSIOIy. He was faculty advisor to the Beta Club and the one-act play. ln the latter capacity he was instrumental in the formation of an active drama club. ln the summer of 1965, Mr. Branch was selected to attend an NDEA Institute on communism. Having always desired to continue his professional studies, he reentered Georgia Southern in the fall of 1966 as a graduate assist- ant in Social Science to work on his Master's Degree in history, At the present time he is teaching seventh grade social studies at Lyons Elementary and serving as an assistant football coach. Acnvmss The toil, the effort, and the reward of' these extracurricular hours Belong to me . . . the student . . . Who has borne them in silence and in joy. In choosing a Diamond the rule of the Four C's will help you make the correct choice. These Four C'As are: carat weight, cutting, clarity, and color. Carat weight is the size of a Diamond measured by weight in points and carats, 1 carat-100 points, UZ carat250 points, etc. Cutting refers to the quality of the workmanship in shaping the stone and arrangement of facets. Clarity is the degree of whiteness and when properly cut, the Diamond acts like a prism that breaks up the light, giving off every color of the rainbow. A Diamond is Forever Price is determined by the above rules for guidance in your purchase.
