You have now, in a sense, opened the door to your life. What the future holds depends largely on you. There is no straight and easy path along which one travels the road of life. Success, satisfaction, and happiness are the points toward which we travel, although the ' r clearly marked. route is neither smooth no h wa may be contradictory, Markers along t e y but your education, if properly applied will assist you in making the proper choice. None of them is worth a straw without it. I THOMAS G. SCOTT, B. S. A. , University of Georgia Mercer University M.A LEWIS N. WALDROP Mercer University M.A. PRINCIPAL The world is watching us to see if we can meet the challenge of today. Much will de- pend upon the wisdom of those whom we choose as our leaders. But our future cannot be made safe by our leaders alone--the fu- ture is in the hands of each of us as individ- uals. Is it possible for an individual to hin- der the growth of his country? I believe that it is. We hear a great deal today about our rights, --political, civil, and religious, -- but we hear little about our duties or obliga- tions. These rights can be ours only if we accept the responsibilities that go with them. Let us remember then, that we as individ- uals enjoy our political, civil, and religious rights, but our obligations are as great as our rights. 477.654 MRS. S. A. MCCOSH, B.A., M. A. He is the Mary Persons High School Star Student because of his excellent scores on both verbal and math sections of the December CEEB, but he went even further. He made the highest scores yet made by a Mary Persons student. Tony is also a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship competition, and a runner-up in the competition sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English. He has other fame as a champion. He won the district competition for the privilege of representing the state of Georgia in the United States Senate Youth Program. He also received two NEDT Awards and the University of Georgia Merit Award. He was a member of the debate team that won the state trophy in 1963. Outstanding performances are not new to Tony. He was selected to par- ticipate in two National Science Institutes at Emory University. At Mary Per- sons School he has been active in the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, the 'Y-Club, the Literary Society, and the Student Council. He has represented his school in debate, declamation, boy's essay and at Boy's State. He is co- editor of the Merry-Go-Round. Tony has held a number of offices and has been a class superlative for four years. Throughout all this activity he has main- tained an A average. Richard Verzyl is another Mary Persons High School champion. He is a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship competition and also a semi-finalist in the National Honor Society Scholarship competition. This latter honor has never been brought home to Mary Persons High before and is based on the high scoring done on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test which is administered here at Mary Persons School in October of each year. Chuck, as he is affectionately called by everyone, has many other honors. He participated in the Emory University National Science Institute, has won two NEDT Awards, The University of Georgia Merit Award, three honor certificates for his A average, and was a member of the debate team that won the state trophy in 1963. He has been a member of almost all school clubs, including the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, Y-Club, Pep Club, Literary Society, Student Council, and has held offices in many of them. He is co-editor of the Merry-Go-Round, and has been.a class superlative for four years. Lee McGee is another champion at Mary Persons. ln addition to being one of the school's outstanding athletes, Lee was elected state president of the Georgia Beta Clubs. This is a fine symbol of the fact that Lee combines great physical prowess and excellent mental achievement. He has been captain of the football team for two years and was voted the best offensive player in his junior year. 'Lee is also president of the Student Council and president of the Senior Class. Both of these are outstanding honors. He has been active in a number of clubs including National Honor Society, Y-Club, Beta Club, and the Pep Club. He has won two NEDT awards for high scores on this national test.
