English Department Sister Rose Margaret, recently returned from Notre Dame University where she acquired her doctrate in English, this year became head of the MMC English Department. She is studying the department care- fully, with the intention of revising the program to keep pace with the growth of the college and the new demands on liberal education. Courses offered this year were: freshman Com- position and Rhetoric, sophomore General Survey of English Literature, 18th Century Prose and Poetry, Contemporary Catholic Writers, Modern Poetry, Development of the Novel, History of Drama, and Romantic Prose and Poetry. Other members of the English faculty are: Sister M. John, Sister M. Lelia, Miss Ioan Hill, Mr. Kellermeier, and Mr. Francis Yezbickl English students fmd that literature is for all ages ,Q The list of references I just gave you are all available in the Ann Arbor Library 52

France comes to Mary Manse in the language lab booth. Spanish students guided by Senora Tyrell Language Department Hable usted espanol? Parles-vous francais? These are sounds heard daily at Mary Manse College. The Language Department, under the direction of Sister Rita Marie, affords the student every opportunity to gain proficiency in both reading and speaking a foreign language. Among the courses offered are beginning and advanced French, Spanish, German and Russian. What is learned in the classroom is re- enforced by repetition and drill in the language laboratory. Here true to life speaking conditions are simulated, giving the student the opportunity to learn by listening to the language as it is spoken and by repeating what he hears. practice conversational Spanish. bb' 53
