The department, under the direction of Sister jane Catherine, aims at both those students going into art as a career and those students needing a minimum amount of art instruction for a teaching certificate. For the beginner, art appreciation serves as an introductory course. By providing a background for the history of painting, sculpture, and architec- ture a basis for further art studies is laid. In addition to art appreciation, other courses are offered in which the student has an opportunity to put theory into practice. For those interested in teaching art, a course on art in the high school is offered. And we couldn't even draw a straight line at first
