Latin ilub Dear Ven-gil, You won't remember our first meeting since l played the part of an eaves- dropper. You were busily conversing with Iloraee, your dimidium animae meae . Last September, as the pages of a cer- tain book began to open and you stepped out of the folds, I found myself realiz- ing you were one of the greatest poets. Through the power of imagination, I listened as you eonversed with your good friend, Maeeenas, and I watched you spend many tedious hours in writ- ing the 'Tieologllesi' and L'Georgics . rv 'G ,l.x. Eu-l. 24:17 During class, on the first Friday of each month, I have closed my eyes to the outside world and followed the es- capades of Aeneas, the hero of the '6Aeneid , your greatest epic. You see, Vergil, on this day we hold our Latin Club meetings. Many times I have found myself entraneed by exciting mythologi- cal tales, which are related in this na- tional poem. Plays and skits presented at these informal meetings have taken us back to long ago. Uur moderator has truly proven to us that Latin is an en- joyable subject. To close this letter I can find no better way to express my sentiments than to quote the immortal Alfred Lord Tenny- son. Perhaps, no more beautiful or just tribute has been paid to the memory of any man than: I salute thee, Mantovano, I have loved thee since my day began, Wielder of the stateliest measure Ever molded by the lips of manf' 'Semper fidelesf, The Latin Club Kiefer, A.
