expert, and Rosemary Marck, head of the Katherine Gibbs School, listened with interest to Nelly Martinez' experiences as a suburban housewife. Marilyn Brown, Catherine Kearney, Agnes Martire, Catherine di Peri, Joan Mueller and Joann Smith, all mothers with young children were particularly interested in talking to Veronica Burg whose new method of child discipline has attracted nation-wide publicity, to Anne Mullaney, head of Bellevue's children's ward, and to Mary Roome, child psychologist. Ellen McQuade, on the staff of Vassar College, also contributed many valuable ideas on child education. President Luz Benavides of Costa Rica and Maureen Coghlan, her social secretary, were unable to attend due to a crisis in the government of that country and their absence was deeply regretted, particularly by Joan Clark, who is at present in charge of social work for New York City, and who would have been interested in hearing the president's views on international social problems. Among those who entertained the guests were Rosalie Ames, well-known concert singer, Dorothy Barre, leading woman trumpet player, June Coppel and Mary Ann Cooley, duo pianists whose recent debut in Carnegie Hall caused a sensation, and Mary Alice Hornberger who sang selections from La Boheme, her famous starring vehicle. Betty Mueller, whose dog recently received the best in the show award at the Westminster Kennel Club Show, and Rose Schwerman, personnel manager of the new Queens Macy were also present. Among those unable to appear were Jean Tarantino, who recently re- ceived the Nobel prize for splitting the ion, and Mary Ann Velie, professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They are attending an inter- national conference in Switzerland. However, they will meet there two other classmates, Pat O'Brien, atomic scientist, and Jean Schram, chemist, who will be attending the conference. While in Switzerland they will also have the opportunity to see the famous skating trio of Joan Owens, Joan Little, and Catherine Cantwell who are now on an international good-will tour, and Rita Ellen Biss, American Olympics star.
