Suddenly, the stage is vibrant with lilting voices and the pulsating rhythm of castanets. Soon all are swallowed in a sea of brilliant and gayly colored peasant cos- tumes. Each dance, each song is a bit of mosaic, which when complete, forms a festive pattern of Latin American lite . . . conveyed by the Spanish Club to the Mary Louis stage. By means of this musical assembly pro- gram, the Spanish Club furthered its foremost aim: to acquaint the students of The Mary Louis with their Latin neigh- bors. So important is this work, especially today when our relations with Mexico and South America are constantly growing closer and stronger, that the Club is no longer an extra-curricular activity. ln- stead, Sister Agnes Virginia had allowed us to conduct our meetings during class so that every student will conclude her course not only with a knowledge of the Spanish language . . . but also of the Spanish people. -DOLORES BOYLSTON '47 l37 A Mexican folk-dance was exhibited by lstanclingl Misses Burkard, Goldsmith, Evans, Seltzer, Gerard, and Drake. lkneelingl Misses Bartenburg, Bajada, Becht, Comerlord, Hartmann, Henneberg. 475.4 Qffams E ARE a group of scientifically minded girls, organized for the purpose of satisfying our curiosities about the WHY of things. Our officers bear the titles of the parts of the atom. Our Grand Proton is Phyllis Burkard '47 and Carroll Grimes '49 is First Electron. Our main object is to visit places where we will see in practical action, the things that are depicted and explained in our textbooks. The speculative part of the work is achieved in the classroom, The laboratory period teaches us the practical side. Patience is our motto, and breaking test tubes is our chief diversion. Who knows-perhaps some day we may split an atom. PHYLLIS BURKARD CARROLL GRIMES 48 f 'Riff' f . W P L exe 1 K it 5323, R, Middlemiss, P. Marron, D Lynch, J. Ross, P, Farrell, E Dwyer, J. Schmitt, E.
