There is a flower, a little flower With silver crest and golden eye, That welcomes every changing hour And weathers every skyf, T IS appropriate that in St. Joseph's garden, the Daisy should represent the extracurricular activi- ties of The Mary Louis Academy. The silver-white petals, stemming from its golden center, symbolizing each activity, be it a vocation or retreat project of the Sodality, a play from capable hands of our Genesians, Christmas windows designed by the Magnets, Midnight Mass sung by the Glee Club, Spanish, Latin or French Club meetings that introduce us to the languages and customs of other people, or the exciting basketball games staged by the Athletic Association which bring out our co- operative spirit. As the golden center itself, like a large, clear, constant eye fixed on God, gives strength and direction to the petals radiating from it, so should our purity of intention in pursuing our work bring the combined strength of eight hundred and thirty girls to each in- dividual student. In that strength she is able to welcome every changing hour of study, recitation, or recreation as a source of fresh inspiration, Then, even when she fails in her work or loses a game on the court, she realizes that if she has done her best, she has weathered every sky. To be the true Marielite, we know that spiritually, mentally and physically, we must be well trained and well prepared for life, With the help of our Faculty Moderators and Saint Joseph, our Patron, the Model of Artisans, let us continue to work hard, pray hard, and play hard so that our daisy patch in the garden may be brimful of golden-eyed blossoms. -DOLORES E. DOWLING K, ROWAN Corresponding Secretary Recording Secretary On the occasion of his fiftieth anniversary as a Sodalist, our present Pontif? Pius XII, declared, Conservation to the Mother of Cod in the Sodality is an entire gift of oneself, throughout life and for all eternityg it is not ri gift of mere sentimentg it is not a mere formal- ityg but it is operative, consummated in the intensity of the life of Christ and of Mary in the apostolic life in which it makes the Sodalist the minister of Mary and, so to express it, her visible hands upon the earth in the spontaneous overflowing of a superabundant interior life, wlgchfpours itself out in all of the exterior works of solid devotion, of worship, of charity, an o zeal. ACH year our Marian Sodalists renew to the beautiful Virgin of Galilee the consecration of their souls with all their powers, their bodies with all their senses, and their hearts with all their affections. This year, Mary was the patroness of the most extensive spiritual and social program our Sodality has ever witnessed. The impressive Installation and Reception ceremonies, the Thanksgiving Sport Hop, the closed retreats at Ronkonkoma, Scranton, Mendham, and the Cenacle, N. Y., the beautiful Christmas Crib and the festive tree project, were the sparkling highlights of the first semester. The second half of the school year beheld the third annual Symposuim, the Vocation Week Project, Holy Week Retreat, May Crowning Activity, Pas- sion Play performance, the Sign Luncheon Dance and the scholarship awards to the Summer School of Catholic Action. Let us pray with Pius Xll that the lively faith of our Sodality may impreg- nate our Own lives, so that we may truly become Mary's visible hands on earth bringing the gifts of our souls to Jesus through His Most Blessed Mother.
