Dear Mom and Dad, s I 1 5 Today is my last day working as a student and we finally get towear our white unybrms - boy, does it feel good! I remember how excited I was when I first tried on my gray uniform. It seems like just yesterday . . . Remember how it poured that first day you brought me here? And how soggy all my boxes got? And then you left me all alone - until capping. It was so great to see you that day! I remember how I felt when Dad's flashbulb flashed as I got my cap - embarassed, but oh so proud! And your pride showed in your smiles and your tears. Thanks for realizing how much it meant to me to really be on my way! Boy, the rest of the way has been alot of work and I remember the fear with which I gave my first injection . . . to a friend! The classes were hard, but I can still remember every patient and how much I learned from each one! Then suddenly I was capping my little sister and passing on words of wisdom from the old pro! I didn 't feel like such a pro though when I walked into that delivery room! But, gosh, that baby was so beautiful and the Mom just couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry, so she did both! What did you do, Mom? And all the kids in Pedi were such fun to play with and comfort - I really began to feel like I had something to offer! . . . And then back to the adults - meds were so much more fun and the OR was great! I know it makes you sick to hear about it Dad, but it 's such a neat way to learn! I s . Then coming back this year was different again . . . it was our last jirst day and suddenly we were the seniors who the underclassmen expected to have the answers! Guess what? I really could answer some of their questions! And ICU . . . sure I was scared, but so much of my fear has changed to confidence. And being a team leader is nervewracking, but I can do it! Psych has allowed me to see people in dijferent ways and as I observe more carefully, I see how much we've all grown both as people and nurses of these three years. Even though I was a big senior this year, I still needed you both very much and because you love me the way you do, you were there. I've begun to stand on my own and I want you to krww I could never have done it without you. Thank you Mom and Dad . . . I love you. Your loving child 53
