His extracurricular assignments ranged from the Admissions Com- mittee to a Trustee Committee; in all appointments he brought new insights and fresh ideas. His work on the Task Force Committee gave him a significant role in shaping the future directions of the College. An exciting and demanding teacher, he inspired his students to do their best work. He brought into the classroom his own exper- iences and thus made clear that what he taught was not merely text-book rhetoric. The material was relevant to his students ' fu- ture. He believed strongly that there were alternatives to the tra- ditional Lecture discussion meth- ods of teaching. He video-taped some of his courses and foresaw these and other courses in the col- lege being taught on closed cir- cuit television. Bill taught both in the traditional program and in the Adult Degree Program, and thus he touched the lives of a wide va- riety of our students, all of whom profited from that association. For all of his contributions to the life and future of the College, we are grateful. But we will remember him most for the man he was. We will remem- ber him for his wit and good spirits, for his sympathy and concern for others, for his unfailing courtesy and kindness. In the years I knew him I never heard him speak an un- kind word; I never sow him do an unkind act. Bill Blakeley won the respect and admiration of everyone who knew him. He was a model for each of us to emulate. Dr. Ethel M. Smeok •- % 194 memoriann Dedlcorlon m or three years the Blues- fy tocking has been guided w by an extraordinary teach- er and tirend. Hov ever, Dr. Keller is not only val- ued by the Bluestocki ng staff. He is, as an Associate Professor of His- tory, an intergral part of the Mary Baldwin community. He brings his- tory to life through his imaginative use of field trips, films, and class- room fun. Dr. Keller has taught us the history of our nation, our poli- tics, our religions, and our college. For these reasons and for the countless more that go unmen- tioned, the 1987 Bluestocking is proudly dedicated to our advisor.
