To the Class of 1986: In this, my first year as President of Mary Baldwin College, I have looked to you, the Class of 1986, for special support and guidance. You are my first Senior Class, and you have helped me get to know, not only upperclassmen, but also the whole student body and College community. You have been welcoming, inspiring, supportive, knowl- edgeable, generous, confidently in-charge, and commanding of my deep- est admiration and respect. In short, you have captured for me the essence of the Mary Baldwin woman and have made my being one of you both a joy and an honor. It is now time for you to move on; and it is altogether fitting that you should, for you are ready. We who remain behind are confident of your abilities and that you will represent our College superbly in whatever directions you choose in life. As you go, we give you our sincere good wishes. Each of us at Mary Baldwin hopes for each of you in the Class of 1986 that life will bring great joy, fulfillment, success, and the peace of knowing you have done your best. We also give you our love so that it may sustain you with the sureness that Mary Baldwin College is and will always be your home. Cynthia H. Tyson President President ' s letter 17

DEDICATION An important part of our years at Mary Baldwin College is an indi- vidual who has offered each of us strength, wisdom and inspiration. Kenneth S. Armstrong, Jr., Di- rector of Development and College Relations, has been our friend as well as mentor. Upon our arrival at MBC, you greeted us with a warm welcome, friendly smile and amazing memory when we realized you knew our face, name and hometown. The transition of leaving our home and beginning a new life within the MBC community was made easier through your guidance, encourage- ment and concern. You supported all of our activi- ties and encouraged us to do the same. You have shown us school spirit, composure when necessary and that wild side of you so many of us know. (Do you remember the water fig ht with three masked ban- dits in Bailey four years ago?) Your love and respect for MBC and the students has been overwhelming and neverending. Thank you Ken for all you have given us. As we continue with a new life after MBC, your influence will always stay with us. Id Dedication
