'L 5.1 Il ,,. Senior C lass H istory As the Seniors of 1958 stand on the threshold of the future, they find themselves pausing to look back, with the Bulldog, at their past years at Mavahi. In the beginning, as eighth graders, everything seemed strange and exciting to us. Nevertheless, we plunged into our high school careers by organizing ourselves as a class and by learning to adjust to new situations and surroundings. The weekly eighth grade assembly programs and our class float taught us how to work together and how to take advantage of every opportunity that was offered to us. The Bulldog watched with interested eyes as we became Freshmen. For the first time, we ex- perienced a sense of belonging and eagerly looked forward to the years before us. Joining lNIavahi's various organizations, electing three of our fellow classmates, Betsy Carper, Mary Garland LaPrade and George Grogan, to the V. Cheerleading squad, and constructing the Beehive for our home- coming float were the highlights of our Freshman year. With our Sophomore year came an increase in class spirit as well as in school spirit. Under the leadership of President Lynda Wyatt, we again built our class fioat and continued to participate in the numerous extra-curricular activities in our school. VVe reached an important plateau when we became juniors. Elected class president for the second time, Jimmie Gregory worked with one hundred and sixty-one determined class members to make our Junior year a most successful one. A dream became a reality when our egg hatched into the winner of the homecoming float contest. Our beloved Miss Anthony helped us brew Onions in the Stew , our class play. The long-awaited moment finally came when, beaming with pride, We received our class rings. VVe honored the class of ,S7 with the annual Junior-Senior banquet and prom, carried out with the theme, Two DiHerent W'orlds,'. Last but not least, we closed a memorable year by tossing our farewells in the form of roses to the outgoing Senior class. With mixed emotions, we entered the halls of hfavahi in September of 1957 as Seniors. As we walked down the aisles of the auditorium and took the Senior seats in the first assembly of the year, we felt the importance of our position. The responsibility of Senior class president was placed in the capable hands of Charles Pratt, who had gained our confidence as Junior class treasurer. As the time for the football homecoming approached, we realized that fifteen Senior boys would play their last game, a class float would be constructed for the last time, and that next year we would occupy the same seats as alumni of Nfavahi. Queen Lynda VVyatt and her attendants, Mary Garland LaPrade and Ruth Drewry, reigned over the festivities. The members of the Senior class tackled a more serious production in their presentation of The Red House Mystery , also directed by Miss Anthony. Time passed quickly and we found ourselves preparing for our final basketball homecoming. Sue Turner, Betsy Carper, and Nonnye lVIitchell, respectively, attained the coveted positions of queen and attendants of the Sweetheart Ball. This was only the beginning of the excitement of basketball season, as we were later declared District VI and State Group II champions. The end of the year was filled with events such as the completion of the annual, our class trip to New York, Junior- Senior, Senior prom, Senior picnic, and our class day assembly. Joy and sadness filled our hearts and the heart of the Bulldog as we lived that which we had long awaited-baccalaureate service and graduation exercises. Our final thoughts are that we have gleaned an invaluable knowledge from our teachers, our classmates, activities, and most of all. from our Bulldog. -tif 15 lik- Rl I'lI Cixiwiirx NilN'I'I'IIl Horam' YYlc5iNc:'i'uN Cimiuifzs PllA'I l' Xlzuu' FRANCES 'lillflMI'SON SKIP l'ki1.i.,xxmN B ii'l'Si' CAR if 14114 IMA w-4 During our iive years :it Xlavalii every member of the class of '58 put forth much effort to make our class the best one that the eyes of our Bulldog ever observed. llowever, there were some who gave more of Lheir time and energy than was expected of them.
