MILLER 1141 Vocational School The Vocational School was formed during the 1939-40 school term and has progressed very rap- idly since then. The school is divided into two sections, an A group and a B group. The A group students have all day vocational training while the B group students have half-day training in vocational work and the other half-day is spent in regular classes at the high school building. The boys work on a thirty- hour a week basis with Hfty per cent shop work and fifty per cent class work. Upon completion of their two years regular high school work and two years vocational work they receive both a state trade cer- tihcate and a regular high school diploma. They work with Hrst-class equipment and have completed a number of projects such as mak- ing play-ground swings, waste baskets, and flag poles for the Board of Education. They have wired the new Vo-Ag building with electricity, as well as making numerous improvements at the old high school building. On April 18 they held open house with the public invited in during the day to see the boys at work and their accomplishments. Back Row: Mr. Files. Mr.-Miller. HELEN BRYAN B A GREAT circle of friends mourn the loss of Mrs. Helen Bryan Bentz, one of our most highly respected and best loved faculty mem- bers. Having come here from Florida in the fall of 1920, Mrs. Bentz was one of the oldest members of the faculty in point of service. She was graduated from Georgia Wesleyan College, where she received the Bachelor of Science degree. She continued with graduate study at Florida State College for Women. In addition to being an instructor in mathe- matics she had coached the girls' basketball team since the school year of 1921-22. Dur- ing these past three years, the girls' team was undefeated. For this record she won the ree- ognition of being the outstanding girls' coach of this section. We remember her for her brilliant per- sonality Which ever urged us to higher ideals. Mig.. Christmas cards were sold to help defray the expenses. The club performed a special service to the school by conducting a non-cheating campaign. The club members made programs for the home football games. In the spring a Go-to-Church campaign benefited both the school and the community by awakening the desire in young people to attend Church. At the be- ginning of the fiscal year, sometime last March, the following editorial staff took over the publishing of the paper: Co-editors, Cleveland Frye and Betty Ritter: copy edi- tor, Harriet Leach: sports editor. Carlton Danner: sports writers. Robert MacDonald and Robert Troupe: feature editor, Mary Jane Burkhart: exchange editor, Eleanor Lloyd: photographer, Bill Stilwell: mailing clerk, Florence Flagg: and reporters, Mary Alther, Arlene Kidwell, Eleanor Legg, Fran- ces Lamp, Anne Chapman, Elise Swope, and Wanda Tharp. The adviser is Miss Ruth Darby. When the apple blossoms appeared last May, the three members then appointed to the Triangle staff were on hand to begin work on this book. They were Elise Swope, editor-in-chief: Doris Robinson. business manager: and Bill Stilwell. photographer. H . .,,,, , H Mildred Ririker Business Manager . ..., .7 ,,., Peggy Coffman An Appreciation To those not on the Triangle staff, but who have lent us a helping hand, we wish to say Thank You. As the years '40 and '41 progressed, we found that the successful publication of a yearbook depends upon many, many more people than we had realized. During our sales campaign we sent plans of the book to seven prominent men of this section. We heartily thank G. William Ropp, superintendent of schools: Jennings Randolph, United States representative: C. H. Dailey, mayor of Martinsburg: W. H. S. White, president of Shepherd College: Carroll R. Miller, secretary and manager of Appalachian Apple Service: J. Nevin Kilmer, attor- ney, and Gilbert C. McKoWn, editor of the Martinsburg Journal, for their letters of enthusiastic praise of these plans. Students are the most important part of the publication of any annual. The students of Martinsburg High School have made this one possible. To the girls in the Charm Revue: to Frances Wilburn, Ilene Wintermoyer, and June Wilson for helping with personality sketches and typing: to Joyce Fangmeyer, Charles Gantt, and Beall Rodgers for art: Jack Shufelt, Calvin Shipper, and Walter Dinte- men for photography: and so to all the other students not in the Press Club who are boosters and buyers of the Triangle, we owe a great deal. Every member of the faculty has had a place in putting the Tri- angle on the market. We owe our gratitude to all the teachers for their co-operation and most especially to Miss Darby, our faculty adviser Last and by all means most important, we must mention our ad- vertisers. They are the foundation upon which our financial success rests. So, read the ads . . . patronize the stores . . . We are proud of them. .-.89-. Si W. O. NICKLAS CO.
