ANNUAL VARIETY SHOW This year's production, again directed by Howard Cochran, ranks with the outstanding in Perry Variety Show history. Edna Louise Marquardt excelled as Mistress of Ceremonies, and the orchestra, under the direction of Jessie Sisley, rendered the selections in a masterful way, In the Hi Neighbor number the girls of the cast circulated through the hall and, while singing, shook hands with those in the audience. Star performances were made by the vocal soloists, Eleanor Barker, Isabel Hodor, Rita Schultz, Geraldine Bachman, .luanita Shafer and Mary Emma Blinco June Hellner proved a surprising comedienne as she danced, sang, and laughed her way through Deep in the Heart of Texas. Nancy Davis was featured on her saxophone, violin and piano, while Alex Vargo's nimble fingers beat out Moonlight Cocktail Serenade, Ethel Pocsilc made a hit with her cowgirl yodeling. Joe Voytecek, football and track star, was seen in a new role, that of a gossiper, Ernie Dull and Bob Lavy made free-hand drawings while the show was in progress. An added attraction was given by the graceful dancing team of Madalyn Burdess and Betty June Cevola. A number was played by the Trumpet Quartet that qualified for the State Contest. The patriotic finale proved to be a hit of hits. lt featured Edna Louise Marquardt as Miss Marine, Nancy Davis as Miss Aviation, and Jessie Sisley as Miss Navy. Each of the three was introduced with music appropriate for the branch of the service which she represented, and after the trio had been brought to the front and center, the orchestra went into The Star Spangled Banner, and the entire audience arose in tribute to the National Anthem. FACULTY NOTES ln leaving good old Ferry High, As the class of Forty-Two, Some will breathe a heavy sigh, And some depart with feelings blue. We might have acted up a bit, And made our teachers mad, But the spark in our hearts the teachers lit, When we part, will make us sad. Coach Tommy Jones with dimples deep, is a regular sport for all to meet. And Sandy Sandrock with his cute bow ties, Is the pride and joy of all the guys. Then our old pal Thomas at bat at the pool, Trying to hit safe in keeping up cool. Goes Corporal Hopkins the heart breaking slam, We praise him for leaving to join Uncle Sam. Fine Charlie Stroup gnawing his nails, Back in a corner checks annual sales. Mr. Frank Stallings of the great singing brand, As a Band Chaperone is a humdinger grand. We'll remember Miss Vennum the teacher of art, And when found chewing gum to the office we'd start. We learned cooking and sewing from Miss Craft and Miss Lane Whom We'll recall in good housekeeping again and again. There was one fine old class where we failed to get smart, In a sense of the word - O, you know Fred Hart. As we trudged to school late in our ears rang the call, REPORT! Mr. May announcing. Place: DEEtention Hall. Let's remember Floyd Baker and his basketball champs, The pride of Ohio, and big shots of the vamps. Here's to good old Pop Cochrane, the Wiz of the band, Who conducts Ferry High, the best in the land. Two favorites, sweet Lois Sharp and petite Tootie Reese, Take a tug at our hearts hard to release. For our schoolmaster deluxe Superintendent Fred Teal, Words will not express the honor we feel. We could go on and on from the school record score, But We'll sign off right here and bore you no more.
